    I am blogging?again.

Wednesday was the debut of the very awesome DEREK HOWELL to my weekly. The past few shows, it was on the slower side because of the holiday and the pretty crappy weather. Hurricane season has started again and the weather has been deplorable. Rain, rain and then more rain.

I can?t really make the rain stop [this is when I wish I was Storm from X-Men and I could make the stupid rain stop] and so before every show, I started to get really nervous. Typically, when it rains, people tend to stay home. My venue is at the beach and it is a bit of a drive for everyone to make it down there. It was a down pour on Tuesday and the morning of the show, the rain had not let up.

Ironically enough, Derek?s flight was 30 minutes EARLY. Since when are flights ever EARLY when the weather was completely dismal?? I took this as a good sign.

Despite Derek being all over the place in my musical world, in reality, I live in Jacksonville and much like 90% of the artists that I bring into town, the majority of clubbers have absolutely no idea who the dj is. Regardless, Wednesday?s are always a great time. Wednesday is like my Saturday since I work all weekend. It gets a tad bit crazy on Wednesday. But it?s always the best night of music in town.

After a yummy dinner with friends, we headed over to the venue to set up. Derek was going to take a nap but ended up walking over to the venue about 30 minutes later. The visuals were amazing and my local ADAM WRIGHT was opening up the night. Adam?s a great dj and was playing some really great tunes, including a few Proton releases such as Opencloud?s remix of Joel Armstrong?s ?Serenity? and their own remix of ?Life? [this remix is so incredible].

Earlier in the night, Adam plays Toy Shop?s ?Million Miles?. That track features the vocals of Anita Kelsey. Derek asked me who was singing and I told him it was Anita Kelsey and he wasn?t familiar with her name to which I said, ?You know who she is. She sang in that D-Note song ?Shed My Skin? and he says, ?Sing it for me. I can?t recall?. I don?t know what possessed me to sing but I sang the hook to ?Shed My Skin?, mind you, I cannot sing whatsoever and after all that effort, Derek still had no idea who I was talking about. Ha Ha.

If anyone is curious as to what my night looks like visually, here is a small clip I took while Adam was playing. He dropped a remix of Grayarea?s ?Gravity?. The Proton visuals looked so awesome all night!

About 5 vodka Red Bull?s later, it was Derek?s turn to play. I started him earlier then I normally start guest dj?s and Derek rocked it from start to finish. I wasn?t able to catch Derek play a full set while down in Miami during conference but technically, he was on point. Musically, the tunes were awesome. He had great flow playing progressive, to breaks, to this really brilliant remix of Michael Jackson?s ?Remember the times? and ending his set with his release for Global Underground?s Electric Calm entitled, ?Frijoles Frescoes?.

My dirty Texan Lance Cashion always says, ?Dirty beats sound better when you?re making a dirty face?. He?s also the man that describes his sound as ?ambient hardcore?. In February, Lance headlined Ocean Club down in Jax and I made a shirt with a picture of Lance in his mullet and underneath it said ?Dirty beats sound better when you?re making a dirty face?. Apparently this picture [and of course Lance saying this to Derek at some point] brought some sort of inspiration to Derek because he made a tune called this. He played this as his second to last tune and it was such a great moment. The track was hot!

Overall, it was a great night of music. Had a great turnout despite this being Derek?s first trip down to Jacksonville. We weren?t balls to the wall with people but there was a healthy amount of people out and about most of which were guys. For the last 3 weeks, the boys have out numbered the girls 10 to 1. It?s normally not like this at the weekly.

I can?t wait to have Derek back in Jacksonville. He is an amazing talent, great person with great energy. He?s just really awesome. I feel incredibly lucky to have him play at the weekly. There must be something about Texas because some of my most favorite people live there.

The set was recorded and it will air on Proton at some point. Keep your eyes open for it.

    Up next for me is H A B E R S H A M!!

derek howell makes his debut @ proton sessions : jax. it was a kick ass night of music. thanks to adam and ibay for rocking out. special shout out to ghost in the machine for the amazing visuals. go proton!

    PROTON SESSIONS: JAX proudly presents.....

a jacksonville favorite returns this wednesday june 21st!

HABERSHAM [Proton, Bedrock, Institution, Renaissance,] Atlanta

Habersham is currently recognized as a leader amongst the new breed of talent that is sweeping the world of electronic music. With this said he has already ensured himself a role as one of the major artists of the future.

While at the healm of two record labels Blueprint Recordings and Lobotomy Recordings he has managed to create a prolific discography. He has appeared on labels such as Audio Therapy, Institution Recordings, Music Is Freedom, Acute Recordings, Mixturi, M-Theory, and CP Recordings. With all of his hard work he is quickly gaining recognition as a hard-working, driven individual who's skills are not limited to just producing or DJing.

Under the Blueprint name, Habersham and Numinous have also been responsible for bringing to Atlanta such artists and DJs as Phil K, Sean Cusick, Chris Micali, Steve Porter, and many more. Together they also host a monthly Proton Radio show, the Internets internationally acclaimed house radio station. His original productions and remixes have received heavy support from John Digweed, James Zabiela, Dave Seaman, Danny Howells, Sander Kleinenberg, Sasha, and Timo Maas to name only a few.

Stylistically, his DJing and production tastes cross many boundaries ranging from all areas of house, breaks and progressive music. His audiences have come to expect a unique Habersham sound, which fans from UK to Mexico, North America to Australia, and across Europe have all embraced enthusiastically.

His music has been featured on over eight Kiss FM and Essential Mix radio shows, and can also be found on such CD compilations as Renaissance presents Therapy mixed by Dave Seaman and Phil K, Bedrock Breaks vol. 3 mixed by Meat Katie, the critically acclaimed Balance 004 mixed by Phil K, and Way Out Wests latest album/mix CD, Dont Look Now on Distinctive.

Every now and then a track comes out which raises the game of its particular 'genre' by a few notches. In my view, Habersham's remix of Pat Foosheen's 'The Unthinkable' has kicked the standard of the more progressive side of break beat through the roof. With the exception of a handful of records by long established producers, this is the best track I have heard in the last two years.

Jon Lisle Bedrock Breaks - 4/27/2004

Habersham shows us why he is the hottest producer of this moment and why he will become one of the biggest names in the near future.

      2. African Americans cause mos def they are raging a race war and want to occupy America like how the plebs occupied Wall St.
