Anyone use Goldwave?

This is the program I use to record sets. Anyone else. I currently have a problem with he quality of recording. Iv'e tried everthing and it still records nasty.

Im pretty sure it's not my soundcard.

Here's a test I did. I went to start, programs, accessories, entertainment and selected the Sound Recorder. I'ts a small little feature that comes with Windows (im guessing). Anyway, I recorded a 10 sec sample from my cdj's and it sounded crisp and clean.

I opened up Goldwave and minimized it. I then proceeded to record another sample with the Sound rEcorder and after playback it sounded like shit. Very poor muffled quality. I closed Goldwave and recorded yet again, with it being crisp and clean.

How do I make Goldwave get back to its default settings. Ive messed with it soo much that I dont know them anymore.

check the sample rate settings, it should be 44100 or even higher ( 44100 is cd quality ) also check that you are not recording in 8 bit, it should be either 16 bit or even better 24 bit, what type of soundcard is it?

Hey Red,

Yeah I've done those setting already. I actually used all of them. I currently have it at the 44100 (stereo). I also selected the 32 bit and 24 bit.

I have a Creative Audigy Sound Blaster + Mp3 Sound card.

Im really baffled on this one... big time.

switch all your inputs, turn all you analogue inputs off and switch to digital, years ago i used to have a sound blaster and having both analogue and digital inputs on @ the same time created nothing but hisssssssss, what you could do is upload a small sample of something you recorded and i should be able to tell what it is from listening to it, or you could try a free program similar which is called audacity!!! if the problem is the same then its either the source of the recording or your hardware

I know this won't solve the issue at hand but for all future sound issues, get rid of the Creative card. Do yourself a favor.

I use Goldwave and it always works great for me.

I'm not assuming you're stupid, so not sure what you've tried and not.

1. Make sure that the file type when you clicked "NEW" is of the quality you want. Your Audigy + MP3 card can do 48,000 Khz, but going higher will degrade the quality. I do 16 bit 48,000 Khz.

2. On the recording options - on the little pop-up controller where you do play/pause/record/etc. go into those options. On the last tab for "device" what are your settings? Make sure it's selected to our Soundblaster, and make sure it's 16 bit. I am not sure, but I don't think the Audigy can record at a greater than 16-bit depth. Plus, depending on what you're recording you're not going to be able to hear much difference with a higher bit depth anyway, since CD's are 16-bit... and any radio is going to be less than that (in terms of inputs).

Try those things out. Those are the main areas you can configure the settings.

This is tangential, and it doesn't explain why Sound Recorder can do high quality - but, in your Control Panel... Sounds and Audio Devices... Audio tab... Sound recording... can you click Advanced? If you can, click in there, and on the Performance tab on the dialog that pops up, make sure that Hardware Acceleration is maxed and the Sample Conversion Rate Quality is Best.

I can actually only change that setting on my playback option, not record, but its worth a try.

I have an Audigy MP3+ as well.

It's a decent card if you don't need 5.1 and all that schmancy stuff.

BTW, do you run all the Creative extra's that allow you to modify the EAX crap? I do not have ANY Creative software installed, other than their drivers for Windows. Not sure, but when I first installed those utils on mine - it was so easy for those tools to mess with the EAX settings and then all my playback and recordings were all fx'd out and sounded messy.

Futura, your a genius. Thanks for all that info, especially about the 16 bit. Not to take anything away from Red, but like I said earlier, I've been messing with the settings back and forth to the point that I had no idea where I was at anymore.

I did a quick 10 sec recording and played it back. It sounded just like it was playing, Im sure. Further tests will confirm.. I got to get back the the Dodger game though, but hopefully if my ears heard right, there should be a nice hOuse set coming soon to the members section
