    david wright.

ok, ill preface this post with the fact, I AM A CARDS FAN. however, outside of that, i hold the game above all else. i can watch a tampa/ KC game if they play well. but this kid.. holy shit he is so fun to watch. 23 years old, and frankly, THIS SEASON, i would take him over pretty much any other NL player outside of pedro. he is clutch, a pretty good feilder, and a MONSTER with the bat. he lacks the overwhelming power of puljos, but hits better average, is more likly to land you the go ahead single than bonds, and is good on the basepath. big RBI guy as well.

any mets fans out there? yanks fans with respect? others? all year he is a highlight video with game winners, nice plays and brilliant running for a guy who isnt known for being terribly speedy.

also, jose reyes, is a phenom. his boxscores on a good day are something like, 3-4, 2 RBIs, 2 stolen bases, 3 runs scored. double, triple. fun guy and a spark plug.

Nice to hear a Yankee fan acknowledge this. Wright and Reyes are my two favorite players, and the best part is they are home grown, not some mercenary free agent. The Mets have an awesome core with these two guys, and will be smart to make them career players a la Yankess with Jeter and Williams.

the one thing i hate is moron mets fans trying to compare reyes/wright to arod/jeter.

be fair here, W/R are two guys, who havent played in a big game yet, and arent even in a full year yet. arod and jeter are two walk in hall of famers, both with big game experience and playoff experience. let the kids play and win something before we annoint them the next big thing, cuz i can rifle off a few names that were hyped bigger than them and shit the bed. also, i heard someone call alstings millege the next vlad gurerro, i almost punched him. that kid isnt even good. let alone great. his head is up his ass, and he fraknly, doesnt show the natural talent.

          Re: david wright.

Millage has looked awful in the bigs but his record up to this point speaks for itself, give him some time to settle in and I think he could impress. There sure are enough GMs out there who would love to get their hands on him.

As for Jeter/Arod, last thing I'd want to be caught doing in touting ARod's big game reputation. He doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Jeter, I don't care what his stats are, I predict that he never wins a world series in his entire career. Jeter OTOH is hands down the most clutch player I have ever seen in any sport .

The only point of my comparison is good solid players who come up through the farm system, these are the guys who make teams.

actually its weird. Arod is cursed by NY, his early career in seattle showed he can be a huge playoff player. his stats back then are actually really good. but he was a kid then, no ego. nowadays, with the current yanks in particular, egos are killing us. giambi, sheff, and arod are all guys who try to hit home runs, instead of just trying to get a hit. they tend to fly out when we just need a bloop single to punch a run in. im more a fan of the champ teams when paul o neill was our best home run hitter and he never hit more than 35. however, this current linup, disregarding the pitching, is so much more of a team i would like. the kids, melky, canoe, phillips are all playing big, coming up with defense, clutch singles, and doubles, and heads up base running. nothing that giambi or sheffeild can offer. matsui is a more well rounded player. if we had more than 4 pitchers that we could rely on we would be OK. ill take unit, moose, wang and Mo any day, but proctor, dotel, farnsworth and sturze arent reliable enough.

i miss jeff nelson, mendoza and stanton.

I don't routinely watch the Mets play live, but Wright is sure fun to watch on the highlight reel. Dude is really having a whale of a year...

sightless, why do you always start threads talking about other teams and giving them credit and then changing the thread around to talk about your yankess? just curious...

                  Re: david wright.

i was talking with kobe and he brought up arod's lack of clutch in NY, but he has a good history outside of NY.

the arod/wrignt thing is brought up here in NY about every 10 minutes and its HUGE garrick.

baseball, right now, in NY is so overwhelming. you have the best team in the NL, and the best sporting franchise ever battling for headlines, both teams with superstars of different breeds. we have top of the lineup guys in jeter and reyes, nasty third basemen, two great second basemen who are hitting a ton, exciting outfeilders and both teams have serious questions at the end of the rotation and bullpen.

NY is a CRAZY baseball town. and its so much fun chatting up about the sport i love and grew up playing, watching. and frankly, although we arent the best, the yankees are still the topic of chat 9 outta 10 times.

and jimbo, ur right, the kid is just exciting. reyes too. when reyes turns first and knows he might have a triple, its just fun watching him rip across second and FLY to third. his brain is catching up to his talent as well. and the mets hired ricky henderson to be his personal advisor.

                      Re: david wright.

i can imagine baseball is quite the buzz in NY these days. maybe if i was a fan of either NY team it would be more exciting for me, but it is just annoying when them and the BoSox hog the majority of the espn airwaves, the tv sports shows, the radio talk shows and pretty much every other facet of sports talk possible. i'm not telling you to stop talking about it, i've just got to get used to the fact that now there are TWO good NY teams that everyone creams over and that those teams simply draw more attention than others... my honest opinion, the media doesn't give other teams a fair opportunity to get into the public limelight.

i kinda got off-topic here. i do agree that david wright is an outstanding player. he gives that $20+ million a year player a run for his money

he will be the 20+ million dollar player. mets are in trouble in a few years unless they want to go the route of yanks/Rsox/Wsox with allowing a high payroll. cuz they have 4 players who are gonna be commanding 20+. reyes, wright, millege, pelphry, and the other kid pitcher.
