I find it odd that just two days ago there was talk of a cease fire, and Isreal even weakening their stance and giving a little to make that happen. And today, Isreal says the offensive will last weeks more, as now the ground troop offensive has begun. As much as i want this to end, i don't know if a cease fire gains anything when more violence is inevitable in the future over the same problems that have existed for decades.

MUCH respect to lebanese officials for ordering thier army to stand down and allowing isreal to get these violent groups out. i just learned about this, and actually, it garnered a lot of respect on my account that they arent reacting, but allowing this to go on, hopefully eliminating a group that would otherwise continue to wreak havoc on isreal and the rest of the region. weird, but yeah, i actually respect that they understand that they cant do it themselves, and someone finally got as pissed off as america with these cuntz. hard stances are the only way with criminal elements. now if only america could apply it to their criminal law ans sentencing.

Yep, good call from Lahoud. After former PM Hariri got blown up last year, I think it's quite brave too to sit back while Hezbollah is taking a beating.

You know, that's why I've been reacting so harshly about the civilian casualties and the "told ya so" mentality of some. Not because I'm anti Israel or something, but because after Hariri was killed, there were huge protests which forced Omar Karimi (the PM then) and his cabinet to resign and Syria to get their troops out of Lebanon. Imo it's kinda simplistic and way too easy to stigmatize the Lebaneze as Hezzie lovers...

There just has been too much of a cycle
of violence, cease fire, temporary peace
then a slow build up of violence again
over the past three decades.
Maybe Isreal is ready for a long term battle
(with the ground troops deployment)
in order to squash the cycle once and for all.

I sometimes lean that direction as well, however, i doubt it will ever be squashed once and for all.
Radical Muslim vs. Jew isn't going to end any time soon (read: ever), and certainly not just by Isreal defeating Hezbollah, which brings me back full circle and maybe a diplomacy needs to be given a chance again, since it doesn't appear there will never be an agreement for both to coexist in the region.

Sure hope so. I think both Israel and Lebanon have seen too much bloodshed. The Israelian army got as far as Beirut in 1982 (be it with the help of the Christian armed forces), so I don't think they'll have a problem performing an encore in order to root out those fundamentalist criminals...

Speaking of which, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea to have the surviving Hezbollah leadership arrested and tried before a UN court (like The Hague) just like they did and are still doing with the Balkan war criminals...
