I just read this whole fucking depressing ass thread and I think it was interesting who ultimately came out on top(and I know this thread is far from fucking dead too so the score could change) but Kinky obviously has some brains going on because I think he's the only one making sense. And I found it a little bit sad to see Lance, someone I have respected as an artist for quite some time, start to lean to the right more and more with his theories. It's not about fucking a cease fire and planes that sent us into Iraq -thats a lame ass excuse-we all know it was (according to what we were told) about WMD's and the "link" to 911 (which was horseshit) and I'm not going to suppose I know ALL of the hidden agendas within our current admin but how the fuck can you justfiy the retarded moves we've been making if it hasn't served someone to make them. Haliburton and other no bid winners of contracts to rebuild these regions we're decimating and all that other shit have benefited from these moves and at the same time there’s also the fact that I think our current admin honestly is so retarded with Christian (I’m christian too but you know the kind of christian I’m talking about-Like WWJD kind of Christian) Theologies that they have no comprehension of how to find a way for the US to stop making enemies and start rebuilding friendships. No opportunity to bring the world together was squandered more effectively than in the 6 years following 911-that was a time when every fucking country in the world was like-“we’re with you America” and now we’re like the most hated country in the world. ONE of the reasons people think we’re retarded is for effectively rendering the UN impotent by making an unsanctioned offensive into Iraq and alienating the majority of the world who could see through the thin veil of Bullshit wmd and unsubstantiated Iraq 911 links. If we hadn’t done that-the WORLD’s UNITED NATIONS would be far more feared and respected and ultimately more capable of keeping this fucking planet together-
I have to go now-this makes me sad and I don’t have the energy to monitor the thread as people pick this shit apart

to end a war like this diplomatically you have to understand the people that are included in both sides and this is where the western world goes wrong because most of these people hate the western world full stop and then the western world tries to help it by getting people to talk but the general population of the people included on both sides then starts to think that the western world just sticks its nose into something that doesnt concern them, its a no win situation

Here we go again with the Vietnam interjection... We pulled out and over 5 million died afterwards in a ripple effect that spilled into Cambodia. Vietnam was a part of the Cold War. It was not a mistake to be there, just a mistake to let politicians run a war... and that is what is happening now in Iraq. Generals runs wars/Politicians run for office. I know many a frustrated Marine who gets shot at and can't shoot back b/c if they do return fire in an urban area, they have to fill out paperwork for the next 3 days. So, basically we are sending them out as armed targets.

most intelligent post here outside of the general idea that we need peace.

2. ending a war dimplomatically does nothing good outside of solving the short term problem. you create lonh standing grudges and ideals that shouldnt be fostered when one country has to give up something they have ingrained into thier heads. look at how muslims across the planet still hate jews. these feelings last long and swell for years until they blow up.(hitler) it only harbors and creates more hate and nonsense because the party that loses in the end feels like it has been shortchanged, robbed, or commanded. diplomacy only works when its a tiff and both parties are eager to try it. when one party isnt, it is just delaying the inevitable. when it is something deeper, terribly, historically, and in reality, it comes down to a fight, and winner is the one who will go farther. and that fact, relating to the middle east, is what scares me most.

Russia less than 20 years ago
flat busted from the cold war
Both have the cash and power to leverage
N Korea and Iran situations
Iran has petrol income as well
and economic relations with both China and Russia

At some point you have to stop trying to understand all diffeent cultures, you cannot be friends with everyone in the first place. Other than that:

The UN has had it's successes, but it's so much easier to bring up the failures. Weak IMO. Right now they're shooting the shit out of rebel groups in the Congo for example, keeping Ethiopia/Eritrea from going to war again, keeping the North and South in Cote D' Ivoire from going to war again and there are a few more. It's a pity though that the US's action has indeed undermined it's authority more than anything else could've done.

I'm still in the middle of dimplomacy and violence: by no means is it so that dimplomacy just fosters long-standing grudges and such, if you think so you have not been watching history. Nations have emerged through a mixture of both, no by siple subjection of one by the other. I'm getting sick with over-dimplomatic attitudes on one hand, and the view that blunt violence will solve everything on the other.

Very true, just look at the Balkan: hundreds of years of ethnic/religious frictions and now almost 15 years after the last war, things have improved dramatically and all minorities/population groups are working together to get their country back on the rails...

But true also that it took a lot of NATO bombs and US/EU pressure/support to get them to this point.
