    Happy 21st of July!

Belgian national holiday today. Frankly I couldn't care less, but just to fulfill my patriotic duties:

Right, so what's for dinner tonight?

Indeed you don't know. We don't eat sausages and sauerkraut here, that would be our German friends

          Here it's more like this

          and a lot of this

@ chuckc: you're right. I'm more proud of our beer than of the country as a whole

Well, since everybody seems to love our beer, I'll add some value to this thread by listing some of my favorites. All are special beers, not pils... If you want pils go for Stella Artois or Jupiler, imo the best pils in the world. Vedett is a relatively new pils brewed by Moortgat (the guys who've blessed us with Duvel) and it's pretty good too.

              1. Duvel (www.duvel.be)

Blond beer, high fermentation with refermentation in the bottle, 8,5% alc., very fresh and full taste with a touch of yeast

              2. Leffe (www.leffe.be)

Leffe Blond (my favo): 6,6% alc., you could call this the light version of Duvel
Leffe Brown: 6,5% alc., heavier and sweeter taste than Blond
Leffe Tripple: 8,4% alc., golden brown color, fresh yet full taste
Leffe Radieuse: 8,2% alc., you could call this the supercharged Brown
Leffe 9°: 9% alc., combined fruity and bitter taste.

              3. Hoegaarden (http://users.pandora.be/hoegaarden/index4.htm)

Natural white beer, bottled without filtering (contains live yeast), 4,9% alc., incredibly refreshing taste. This is the beer I prefer of a hot summer day.

              4. De Koninck (www.dekoninck.be)

Amber beer, 5% alc., fruity, sweet taste

              5. Kwak (http://www.bestbelgianspecialbeers.be/main_eng.html)

Amber beer, 8% alc., sweet full taste

              6. Trippel Karmeliet

Blond beer, 8% alc., brewed with three kinds of grain and refermented in the bottle, fresh yet heavy taste

If you want to discover the rest of the Belgian beers (we've got a few hundred kinds), check out the Belgian Beer Escort: http://www.belgianstyle.com/mmguide/index.html It's got a pronounciation guide as well, so you'll never sound like an idiot again when ordering our liquid gold

              Schol! (cheers in Flemish)
