maybe it's the music thats out there that is to blame and not sasha. The quality of music in the last few months has been mediocre and that is backed up by 99% of the DJs who are playing utter tripe at the moment.

That's a good point.

I saw him 2 weeks ago in Ibiza and thought his first two hours were tremendous - I'm not a big fan of the Ableton stuff and am yet to be convinced about the quality of sound compared to vinyl.
The best set I've ever heard was Space in 2004 - Zabiela has been raving about that night ever since saying its the best he's ever seen Sasha produce (4 hours on the Terrace and 5+ hours in the Discoteque - they nearly ran out of tunes between the two of them !)... coincidently it was the last time Sash played off vinyl/CD !
For me the 2005/2006 Sasha still plays some amazing stuff .... its just that Electro/Acid "filler" tracks in between just don't do it - but Diggers and Fortier are guilty of exactly the same crime against Progressive Music !
The acid test will be at Space in September - Coe's with JZ, Spooky and Tenaglia (plus its his b-day) I'm expecting great things !

Jesus. Totally false. See? If you only listen to one "style" or "genre", then you get stagnant, boring, etc. Only liking one degree of music is frankly a travesty to MUSIC as a whole. Open your mind and enjoy as much as you can. It's fucking music.

we're discussing the state of sasha style music here. you're drifting onto another topic.

digweed has been on fire lately imo. sasha even said it in an interview awhile back. he tends to get lost in the abelton with all the music and all the crap and his sets come out really flat. besides a couple sets in miami this year the last 2 years of sasha have been weak.

Why doesn?t he play more of the classic stuff he has been playing all these years.

I completely disagree. But you?re right, that?s a whole new debate.
I?ve heard this Godskitchen set and I frankly don?t understand what?s so bad about it..I mean, that Joe T. Vanelli track makes me cringe, but everything else afterwards is fucking cool.
It's clear to me that Sasha is an enigma. Like the sleevenotes of GU9 say, he polarises opinion. He certainly has the ability to be the greatest of all time, he just isn't doing it at present.
It's odd but I download tons of sets a month, but rarely a Sasha set, yet I'm a huge fan (well I treasure all his released CD's, pure class IMO). I don't tend to get too hyped up about a Sasha radio set, as I think that you have to be at the club to fully experience the sound (the exception was Maida Vale, which I thought was gold).
In reference to Digweed, I can't name 10 sets of his from the past 3 years of Kiss FM that have been memorable. He plays too much filler in between the odd decent track.
Why doesn?t he play more of the classic stuff he has been playing all these years.
Hybrex
Well, maybe it?s because he?s tired of it?
And has it occured to you that he might actually LIKE what?s out there at the moment?
I mean, a DJ shouldn?t antagonize his whole audience, but why shouldn?t he cater to his own taste?
Getting to the top is not the hard part, the hard part is staying there, and Sasha has managed to acomplish this for years and years, all while trying new styles and technologies...I don?t think there?s a single DJ who you can say this about. I mean, he?s bound to disappoint people if he tries to not be stagnant, isn?t he?

Very good point. Other DJs have gone downhill much faster. Just take Bob Sinclar for instance. When he released Paradise and Champs Elys?es (98 and 2000) he was one of my favorite DJs/producers. Kick ass tunes, kick ass sets. But during the past few years he sunk like a brick, producing nothing but pop songs with a beat and floating on his Top 50 popularity when he's behind the decks...
Couldn't say whether it's a temporary dip or a fin de carri?re since I don't follow sasha that closely, but let's face it: he's not the only DJ in the scene. Even though some people act like he is.
What the hell, even the Mona Lisa is falling apart, right?

I would like to hear cowpander at least one more time
Just playing the Amsterdam set ... thought it sounded drab - but I've realised that Sasha only starts his set at the 13-min mark. I'll give the Global G set a listening later to see if its as bad as people say.
