thurmun munson. the captain of the yanks. known as a tough, hard nosed player. he is one the one who knocked out pete rose at home plate. he brought it every day. was also known as the fan's player. he was humble, but demanded teh best.

he lived in ohio i beleive and on aug 2 he died flying his plane back to see his children. outside of 9/11, it was the only time since ww2 that MLB cancelled games.

the organization has not touched his locker since the day he died in respect to the captain of captains. and i mean the only time anything that was in his locker has been touched, has been by either his family or the lockerroom caretaker who was given the responsibility of keeping it cleaned up. his cleats, suit, spare uniform, and a few other things are still there today.

All you had to say was his name...I remeber that, my dad is huge Yankees fan! We drove up to New York one year to catch a game and ended up talking to Yogi at a gas station before the game. I was still little but I remember it well.

                From: http://www.thurmanmunson.com/bio.html

Although Munson has not yet been elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame he is a likely candidate in the future. The Yankees have retired his No. 15 uniform and have placed a memorial plaque on the centerfield wall at Yankee Stadium. To this day, despite a packed clubhouse, Thurman Munson's locker remains empty as a subtle tribute to such a great player. Munson is buried at Sunset Hills Burial Park in Canton, Ohio.
