Wow - what a night. Permtastic.
This is the best Diggers has been for ages and ages - I assume RADIO 1 aired the 3rd hour of Johns?set, which was actually the poorest part (that just shows how high the quality was).
As Coxy was on the Terrace, Diggers opened up inside playing to 20 people - his 1st hour from 12.00 - 1.00 was just sublime. He played the sort of beautiful mind expanding stuff he used opened his shows with and then just built it up. It was worth the air fare alone - he just had his permed head down playing simply for himself.
Hour 2 was dark, progressive and an electro-free zone - think 2001 to Delta Heavy period. I just stood rooted to the spot in awe. By this time the club was rammed (Space packed is one hell of a sight).
Its just a shame that the first 2 hours weren?t broadcasted - I?ll have to e-mail the great man to see if he has the tapes for an Xmas treat.
Hour 3 was just bass-lines getting the now-packed crowd going, and he tore it up (can?t wait to listen when I get back), working the crowd for Coxy. Carls nights are so well run - they give out wristbands allowing free entrance before 10.00 pm : so it was a freebie as well (although they make up for it on the drink prices - ?13 for a jack?n?coke (at least they are big measures) - little friends were ?10 a pop.
I left at 7.30 am - Coxy was still pounding it out - well, I?m not as young as I used to be. Sorry no photos, but I?m sure Radio 1 will oblige.
That?s all for now - I?m off to the beach to chill.
