    i like a lot of different styles of electronic music. i love breaks and i love house. it seems inevitable that breaks are coming more and more into proggy sets, coz you gotta get tired of hearing the same thing over and over... gotta have some variety. i say bring on the breaks

      Re:: BTW: breaks vs. progressive

      I like some breaks, particularly Hyper and the Distinctive sound.
      Everyone has been going on about house and trance fading for years ,in London both these are still very strong,many more of these nights than breaks nights (breaks is still an underground sound)

          3. therefore, breaks are becoming an alternative for prog (sooner or later both will fade out)
          4. so, I will not be suprised if tomorow we'll hear about the techno-house-hiphop-acid revival.

          Music is not underground anymore. Fact.
          1. I don't understand.....
          2. history? We are in the middle of it right now. The history of edm doesn't go back very far or far enough to make that statement.
          3. Alternatives? How bout no. EDM is a melting pot of styles some are just "cooler" than others at the moment. Breaks have been around since the 60's. More djs are just playing them now.
          4. I think its going on now, has been and will always be..... people will always look to the past for influence.

          I just think your lack of exposure has brought you to all these assumptions.

                          It doesn't matter for me, breaks are breaks and progressive is progressive. i like both. And Zabiela showed us with his renaissance album that breaks can be more than just nu skool or progressive breaks. Really a great album.

                            exactly! i have mad love for breaks, chi-town/NY house and the dweep dark prog house. each style has a time and a place. i don't listen to breaks as a way to relax before bed. i don't listen to prog house when i am on the way to work first thing in the morning. ya follow!

                              Re:: BTW: breaks vs. progressive

                              Some breaks for me are alright. I can't stand whole sets full of breaks. Maybe one or two tracks in an hour mix. But not the whole mix.

                              I think a lot of us are thinking that breaks are getting more play because we just happen to listen to Digweeds show where he keeps playing breaks records. I have pretty much stopped listening to his sets. Hell I don't need to know what it coming out anymore. I've got friends that are way up on that.

                              JZ, is a good breaks dj. Mostly because when he plays he plays faster than what others play and that makes the breaks a bit more interesting. Same with Phil K. I have yet to give myself time to listen to Meatie...Get a real freaking name.

                                not true...

                                the Northern Exposure series had plenty of breakbeat driven tracks...

                                Nick Warren has been playing breakbeat-based tracks in his "progressive" sets for years along with Sasha, Digweed, and the other so-called big DJ's...

                                as others have mentioned, breakbeat has been around for years...

                                this topic has been done to death on this board...

                                this thread = 0/5 IMO
