My TV My DVD player
I don't have a big tv because my living room is small and I believe you need a lot of room for those big tv's.
My dvd player is region 1 but so easy to hack it's incredible.

wow thats a nice dvd player....... I just bought the 30 inch version of the hdtv you have....... nice one..... how is the resolution on yours ?? did you have to calibrate it any ??? I read a lot of horror stories about how sony's come un-calibrated out of the box and you have to end up buying a manual in order to improve the image quality

I won't be back until next Tuesday, so if Get Carter is the correct answer, I would appreciate of someone else posts a new cap for me

I am quite technologically challenged. I usually only buy things that I plug in and play. I always buy Marantz components because they are so reliable.
I still have a Marantz amp from 1985. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the new ones but it works just fine.

Well you sure have picked up some worthy components (from an alleged amateurs perspective) for your audio-visual entertainment. So what's the rest of the get up in terms of amps / speakers (front, center, rears, subs etc)
and I have to agree with you.... (Phillips) Marantz are DEFO a durable and quality product.....

Onkyos maintain their dominance on low-end amps and HTIB's (as per CNET / ZDNET reviews) so you cant go wrong with them. Unless you experienced a power surge or incorrectly wired them, I cant see why you lost your speakers....
Honest suggestion (if you're not a major audiophile) would be to get another Onkyo HTIB (home theater in a box). Here is CNET's top rating...

This doesn't really have much to do with your questions regarding DVD Players, but I love my Philips. Its one of the only ones out there that play DivX and XviD files directly from a DVD or CD. Basically you just write them to the disc as an ISO (Data Disc) and it uses a menu system to play them. Same thing as all the players which play MP3, which of course this does too.
It also plays any and every VCD, SVCD, KVCD, miniDVD, or anything else I throw at it. And of course its region free. Thats pretty much all I want in a DVD player. I've only found a couple XviD files that didn't work, since its compatibility with that isn't as sound as it is with DivX 3/4/5, but the other thing I love is that they release firmware updates for it. You download it, burn it, and update the firmware on the player. So hopefully they will have new things in the future, including optimized XviD support. And of course, I've burned 100's of files and only found a couple that didn't work. I can fit two seasons of the Simpsons on one DVD, about 44 episodes at 22 minutes in length. Equates to about 16 hours of Simpsons.
Of course I'm not a videophile at all, and haven't messed with HDTV, nor plan to anytime soon. I am an audiophile though, so the AC3 5.1 audio in the compressed DivX and XviD files more then suites me.

The Onkyo home theatre thingie is hooked up to my TV.
The speakers I blew up were attached to my ancient stereo. Some old Yamaha speakers I got from my brother. I'm now using some tiny Audio Source speakers and would like some new proper ones.
