    I wonder why...

... even though most people posting in Politics aren't uninformed dimwits, only threads about the ME and Democrats vs Republicans are posted and discussed here. The world is bigger than that people...

      Re: I wonder why...

face it, the world revolves around the US, it extremely reliant on our country. we are the biggest black hole for the economies of the world, and we are the most powerful militaqry machine, which, in all reality, makes people like chavez and fox extremely pissed off that our domestic policy affects thier country more than it does our own. but that really should be pointed back th their own goverments and past failures. all you need to look at is canada. through positive relations, they clearly remain independent of the US policies, but are still tied very much so to our economy, they prosper through cooperative work, but yet, are in no way pressured.
      \
thaT AND add in these 2 facts.

      1. there are a ton of americans here, and with people like me and toasty, our jobs require us to at least pay attention to whats going on. it affects our jobs nearly about every quarter with legal changes and economic policy and taxes.

      2. no one really gives a damn about europe outside of europe. its like fisherspooner that way. you people cant even get everyone together under the EU. if the EU got together, and with NAFTA already operatin at full stregth, there could a large movemtn for peace and economic developement. shit we, are still the only continent to not have a war develope on our own soil since the civil war, and no matter what your views on violence are, that war was 100% neccessary, if not, you are a moron. we are doing something right.

        Re: I wonder why...

You have a point by saying that the US is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) influence on what's happening in the world today.
You also have a point by saying that the majority of the active posters in the forum are Americans.
You certainly have a point by saying that the EU is hopelessly divided at the moment.

However, all of the above doesn't answer my question... Let's project it to music for instance:

EMI, Sony et al are the biggest influence on what is happening in the music world today.
The majority of the surfers on the web listen to "mainstream" genres rather than to EDM (as we like it).
EDM itself is an empty name which groups a shitload of genres and styles.

... So does that mean that we should all be posting about rnb and trance? I hope not.

I've never been to the States (yup, it's a damn shame, I know), but I've learned a lot about the culture, different mentalities and perspectives, politics and what not by reading what Americans post on MS. I like to know what's going on in the world, how life is a few thousand miles from my home, why people tend to have this or that opinion... Not because Belgicum is a little shit country without any real international influence, but because my world is a tad larger than the square foot I live on so to say.

And after all, this forum reads "Politics", so my guess is that if you post/read here, you're interested in the topic as a whole. Otherwise we'd better call it US Politics. My 2 cents tho'.

dude, do you realize how big the USA/canada are???? its takes a little over week to drive from one coast to the other. its hard to get into whats going on when there is so much going on within our own 50+ AND canada. i mean, our country alone is bigger than all of europe. people wise, land wise, entertainemnt, government, etc etc. it is just the way it is. if europe would act like the original 13 states, and come together as one, then things would change, especially since the US and europe have, while strained at times, great relations. imagine if the 3 north american countries, and the EU could actually get on one page, operating as one... wow. the potential for long term peace, and economic prosperity, is historical.

Bring up a new topic, and we'll discuss it, Kinky.

As far as you learning a lot about the culture (or lack thereof tbh) of the states from reading a message board...please stop right there chief. You seem well travelled enough to not say something retarted like that. I've set foot in your country, you set foot in mine, then we'll discuss each other's cultures.

              Will do

What I meant with the culture remark is that through this board I get info which isn't available through European media, but which is interesting nevertheless. Plus, I believe that a part of who you are and how you think is influenced by the environment you live in. I don't see this board as a mirror of the American society, just as an opportunity to look at the world from a different perspective than my usual European point of view.

But you got yourself a deal. As soon as I find Puljos Nutsack on a map, the Stella is on me

How 'bout we discuss that last part in a new thread? I'll hit something up...

And yes, I know that the US covers half a continent on its own, but again that's no excuse for not looking further than your borders/interests. It's exactly that "we don't care about the rest of the world because we're the big bad mofos" mentality which feeds the prejudice that all Americans are fat burger eating retards.

its not that, its jsut if we were to read up on our own country, and then read a ton aobut each european country,..... we would need 30 hours a day. half the uneducated twats in this place dont even know belgium is independent, they all think its a county within the nation called mainalnd europe. to them its, england, ireland, france and europe. then the middle east and russia till you hit the asians.

Agreed. At some point, the USA is going to be forced to realize that, although a sueprpower, it doesn't have the independence it has seen itself to have had in the past.it Even if most Americans don't realize it, America already has to heavily rely on others outside of their borders/interests. We rely on our enemies for our oil, for God's sake. We have a massive trade deficit, we've exported much of our nuts and bolts production economy overseas, and we're all living on borrowed international money, govt included, more than ever. And other nations such as China will rise up and challenge that dominance. The go-it-alone mentality is ultimately not sustainable.
