Re: jenks, toasty, old school cards fans..
On a related note:
There is a debate and vote here in stl going on right now about naming the top 5 all time cards...and Pujols is leading for the #1 spot, and i just don't agree with that at all. Maybe when it's all said and done, you can put Pooholes in the #1 all time Cardinal spot, but to put him there right now is a slap in the face to Bob Gibson, Stan Musial, and Ozzie Smith, who are 1, 2 and 3 imo. Not even making the top 5 are Dizzy Dean, Rogers Hornsby, frickin Enos Slaughter. And i'd argue, while his stats probably don't belong in the same category of the above, Willie McGee has to get some sort of nod for meaning more to this town than air and water. Pujols #1???...who the fk is voting on this?
(interesting tid bit i heard on the radio today- Willie McGee received a standing ovation for every at bat from 1996 until he retired in 2000.) -
Re: jenks, toasty, old school cards fans..
its because stupid people during the 90's fell in love with numbers. (blame magwire, sosa, and bonds here). dumb people fall in love with fantasy players like arod, but ignore winners and champs like jeter, paul o neill, bernie williams and rivera. HOWEVER, the movement is going the other way with our little situation, simply becasue of AROD. with all the shit about those 4 shortstops back in the day, look who is the only one to actually be a winner and excel. now that the 2 of them are playing 40 feet apart from each other, the numbers whore gets exposed and people are finally seeing why the winners dont need to put up 45 home runs, hit 320 and drive in 140 RBIs.
can anyone argue this fact now? look at the last few champs. yanks before the payroll hording, LA angels with that cluthc offense, percival, donnelly, and krod. the white socks whose best offensive player was probably jermaine dye, marlins, etc etc. bosotn was the annomally, with manny and ortiz, but that whole team had guys who normal players and had HUGE team chemistry.your life is an occasion, rise to it.

AAAH, it was just an example to show why puljos shouldnt even be in the arguemt.
top 5 cardinals of all time...
1. gibson, musial, smith, hernandez and slaughter.
puljos is too young to be in the group. he could get hurt tomorrow and be remembered as the guy who played like albert bell for 3 years.your life is an occasion, rise to it.

Re: jenks, toasty, old school cards fans..
have you have a feilder outside of ozzie better than keith?>
also, i would put rolen above puljos, he has done more for the team, is more balanced, and played longer. but that can obviously change if puljos sticks around.your life is an occasion, rise to it.

jenks. who do you think is the most underappreciated player in the last 15-20 years. i dont mean guys who were loved locally, but guys who never got the national attention they deserve. i have to put in pedro, manny, krod, biggio, kent, tejada, dontrell, and roy halladay.your life is an occasion, rise to it.

Re: jenks, toasty, old school cards fans..
Pedro and Manny are not underappreciated.
Jeff Kent for sure. Playing in Bonds shadows all those years. (dude is still a jerk tho.)
Spot on with Biggio too. I don't think Craig Biggio ever got the spotlight like he should have. That guy should go down as one of the greatest second baseman ever, but i don't ever recall seeing him on sportscenter every night. He just plays the game the way it's supposed to be played.
Going back a few more years...
Eddie Murray- one of the quietest players to get 500/3000, shit there were only like 3 or 4 i think to ever get there.
Mark Grace- doesn't have the hall stats, but like Willie McGee, he just got it done.
Barry Larkin- in the baseball dictionary under "complete player" is Barry's pic imo.Comment

Re: jenks, toasty, old school cards fans..
you'd be surprised how many ppl overlook the facts that pedro has a better winning percentage than koufax, and manny only gets called ''a great hitter'' he plays that wall perfectly, and in all honesty, going back to cleveland, he is the best pure hitter i have ever seen and has made 3 guys who bat in front of him earn the MVP. people forget that.your life is an occasion, rise to it.
