pallet expander

sooooo I'm getting braces on Oct 11. I'm paying for all of it, as my dental doesn't cover it unless I were a dependant under 18. I went in yesterday and they put a pallet expander in the roof of my mouth, and I'm not digging it. at all.

I have a bar going across the middle of the roof of my mouth from side to side. it's anchored around the second-to last teeth on each side, and I get to crank it every few days to push my teeth toward my ears. it's not as painful as it sounds... until I try eating. plus I'm having entire bites of food just up and vanish above the thing. I'm constantly having food wrap around the bar or get stuck above it, and swallowing food is a battle with every bite. even when drinking a liquid, I have to swallow twice because after the first swallow more just appears from the section of my mouth that can't get suctioned down my throat. To top it off, I now have a speech slur & lisp, which is great since I just recently got promoted to a project manager position at work, where some days I'm on conference calls for 4+ hours with people I barely know. They're all going to think I'm retarded.

I get to go through this shit until I go in for my braces on the 11th.

Yeah my brother had one of those when he ws younger. I think it was called a bio block or something It seriously looked like he was constantly being tortured by that thing. he could barely eat anything for a while. Then once you get braces , again always hurting right after adjustments.

i just had my 4 wisdom teeth ripped out. i was SO sore for like 3 weeks. miserable feeling when dental work hurts. you just cant get away from it.

I had something similar to that when I was younger to realign my bottom jaw in relation to the top. It took me a while to get used to it, and just as long to learn to speak again when the damned thing was taken out.

I had somehting very similar to what you have. except, I was 12 and it was a "test" I was not planning on having braces, these stupid USC student where testing on my mouth without me or my mom knowing it.

about 4 years after I went to a "real" dentist and she pretty much said "what the fuck is this shit" She took it off.

Anyway, I finally did get braces and I do have some kind of retainer permanatley attached to the bottom of my teeth. Food kinda gets stuck there but regular cleaning and flossing takes care of it.

elective surgury in thier eyes. you wouldnt beleive what i had to go through for my wisdom teeth. all 4 were compacted into the gum , yet the insurance didnt want to cover it. luckily my dentist is a standup guy and wrote a letter and gave them xrays so they would cover at least part of it. they ignored anesthetics, and post op stuff. obviously we cant nationalize insurance, but we should fucking force them to be non profit and give them limits like we did for the utilities. i dont know about anyone else, but my health is more important than my cable and electricity.
