You'd be very surprised Kinky. The whole "imported" thing reallys bumps the price up.
Even in Aus, where we generally know our beer, Stella is overpriced crap which in turn gets a kind of "classy" association to it. People drink it thinking they are trendy, none the wiser to the fact that it's a wife beater beer for the rest of Europe.
A similar comparison is with Fosters. I've never drunk the stuff, no one I know has ever drank the stuff. I don't think it's easy to find it's so unpopular, and is considered to be one of the worst beers on the planet. Meanwhile, the rest of the world thinks Fosters as soon as they think of us poor Aussies, and you can buy it easier in all these countries than you can in Australia. All the while the Fosters they're drinking anyway is stuff that is brewed by their local brewery and not even asked to conform to a Fosters recipe or anything.
