Sharam GU 29 ? Dubai Via Global Underground On October 17
Re: Sharam GU 29 ? Dubai Via Global Underground On October 17
i just got this in, UPS delivered it a little while ago.
i like it so far, on the third track, lots of vocal, but thats ok.
but....i read in the booklet that he mixed this with ableton, what is he Sasha now. I'll bet Hernan didn't use ableton to mix Sequential. Doesn't really matter, but WTF. I still like decks(vinyl or cd), so i am biased maybe. I mean i expect it from Sasha but nobody else.
Re: Sharam GU 29 ? Dubai Via Global Underground On October 17
now i do have a little problem with the ableton issue, he says in the thank you section. quote "ableton live(the only way for traveling djs to make a compilation these days)" What is that supposed to mean. what he can't use decks anymore. i guess the pic of him on the CDJs is just for show.....
Re: Sharam GU 29 ? Dubai Via Global Underground On October 17
i mean i like the mix so far( i am at track 7 on cd1), but i am pissed at that little comment. basically saying i don't want to put my time and effort into it, cause i travel. Mix the damn thing properly, i mean how long has he played on decks? I don't know if the GUs were mixed with protools or not. I know Nick Warren mixed most of his on decks cause it says so. i know this was done on a computer for the same reason. i mean i know GU22 and GU24 were "produced", as it says in the credits( i think that means "computer helped"), but those were made to be like an original production album(reediting and remixing and layering of tracks, thats cool). this is more like a club mix that he was too lazy to mix on decks. i should stop bitching, because i actually kinda like the set, i am just disspointed by the comment Sahram made about the only way for a dj to do comps. This is BS, it sounds like laziness to me. whatever though.....opinions please.

yeah, those were live mixes i believe, I have GU03, and it was recorded live at the club in Prague. still, just wondering how you know the others were protooled.

i like the first disc, the second is ok. i don't really like the second cd until about half way through. the first disc is pretty decent. not a great or timeless mix, but i will listen to it a few more times. not as bad as the toronto mix, although the afterclub mixes were pretty good.

I've been listening to Sharam's Dubai for about a week now and I have to say I'm really surprised as I've long given up on Deep Dish since they stopped spinning at Twilo. Disk 1 is definitely better than Disk 2 but both of them are actually decent to the ear.
In addition, check out this YouTube video. Who wants to bet it's on the next GU DVD?
and the way to mix a cd in protools...is very carefully and with a lot of fade in and outs. Basically just like real mixing with the eq's and all that other stuff...it just takes a week to mix a cd that would take a regular dj an hour and 15 minutes to finish.
Re: Sharam GU 29 ? Dubai Via Global Underground On October 17
actually i am kinda liking disc 1, disc 2 has some good tracks, but i don't like some and the flow is not that great. If this was only one cd(CD 1) i would think it is pretty damn good. I think cd 1 was worth the price though and will listen to this quite often. as far as people talking about too many vocals, they are right, but this is Sharam's style(always was). his afterclub was full of vocal too.
on the protools/ableton end, why take a week instead of the hour and a half it would take. if you got the skills it should not be a problem. if you fuck up, redo it. i don't care that much, because i know they can mix it live, but i don't understand why you would want to do it with a computer only. if you mix it on decks, then do editing, mastering, ect. with the computer I understand that. my 2 cents. i make my mixes live on decks, personally.
