Re: John Digweeds 1999 EM from Twilo
I never thought I would say this about Mr. Digweed but, I agree. I came back expecting some good dirty prog and all i got was sounds that Nintendo would be proud of. This new revolution of EDM stinks.Greatly rejoicing in following God as a freedom not a choice.Comment

Re: John Digweeds 1999 EM from Twilo
Can't agree with you guys...80% of his shows in the last 2 months were top notch in my book and he came back a bit to playing tracks I like better..they must not be 100% progressive but at least have a melody or something and a stucture and building I can recognize. Sadly, he picked a lot of bad clickity click tracks in previous shows and also when I saw him live last year but every live set I heard from him lately was ACE and every report I heard from people who saw him was very postive as well.
But he is still not "back" for me. He only is in a phase obviously right now I can connect myself more with again because he plays tracks I like to listen to. If he chooses to play Big Band sound next year, I wish him all the best and listen to something else and keep the good side of him in mind. I don't get this complaining fetish anyway. I moan about bad sets as well but there was never a time I did not know enough DJs which sound I liked better so I just move on.Comment

Re: John Digweeds 1999 EM from Twilo
i can only hope that when I see him next week in Austin that he has a 99-2000 flashback moment and makes me eat my words
I never had a chance to see him while he was kicking out tunes that were so dirty you had to shower after you listenedGreatly rejoicing in following God as a freedom not a choice.Comment

Tom - Kind of agree with you, and I certainly have loads of dj's that I prefer/listen to over Digweed, namely Jondi & Spesh, Luke Morrison and Shiloh.
I have downloaded one Kiss set in the past 2 months, and there were about 2 decent tracks in there. But he started with 2 Rekleiner tracks that, IMO, were just plain garbage - a repetitive noise for 10+ minutes. I just can't comprehend how some people dig this sound?Comment

I mean I'll always accept that tracks that sound poor on the radio may sound great in a club with the speakers etc, but a lot of the stuff out today is just minimalistic, electro pap for the sake of it. The essence of dance music IMO is a decent beat with a good melody, not this so called Nintendo sound (great genre naming by the way)Comment

Re: John Digweeds 1999 EM from Twilo
but nobody ever topped digweed when he was playing the prog sound ....no one even came close...thats why Its impossible for some of us to understand the new "nintendo" sound that he now loves.
its kinda a good thing though because i have discovered alot of djs that i probably would have never known had diggers not changed his soundComment

Re: John Digweeds 1999 EM from Twilo
^ hear hear chuck, although it is a shame because like tiddles said, digweed was pretty untouchable when he was caning the prog sound.
At least Cattaneo can sometimes pull that prog sound off to great effectComment

Re: John Digweeds 1999 EM from Twilo
I am going to see him here in Austin Wednesday because I have not seen him live yet. I have been trying for years to get to a show. I would have given my left "poncho" to see him between 99 -2002. I am going to settle for this because I look at it like this: even if he plays tracks that stink I will still be able to watch him and listen to the magic he pulls of as a DJ. Even though the music may have changed he can still work the tables like a madman. So I will stand there and listen for the smooth transitions, the tweaks, and breaks he makes and pretend I am enjoying it. That will be my only consolation if he plays crap. I may never get a chance to see him again so I can only hope he brings the "party like its 1999"Greatly rejoicing in following God as a freedom not a choice.Comment
