    Wedding Tunes

Hello all, a bit off topic. I am picking a dj for my wedding cominug up, and I am trying to give the dj a playlist, as I do not want some cheese head playing any songs except those that we have chosen. I am having trouble thinking of some classics to play at the party. Any ideas? Looking for mostly non-electronic "good songs" of any age, but a bit of electronic wouldn't kill a crowd I think. New Order, Clash, Michael Jackson, etc. will work. Much appreciated.

is that an italian thingie Seaner? bollox if you ask me. the two parties that really count are the bride and the groom. the rest should be happy for the free food & drinks they're getting... but yes, as a host your main priority is that everybody has a good time, but that doesn't mean you only have to spin elvis presley. one of my cousins came up with a pretty fair system: first half of the evening music for the older generation, second half party music for the younger guests.

anyway, if you insist on dropping some beats, drop beats that even get the incontinent shakin'. as always, the glorious banana kingdom of Ballergicum provides a solution: our very own gerontophile Dave McCullen with his one hit wonder "Bitch" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFzdTA_0vEU

dude, about 4 years ago, i went to a wedding for a manager at my old restaurant, her name was heather. her husband was/is freinds with ''that kid chris''. well..... towards the end, he hopped on and played out club music. needless to say only a dozen or so ppl danced, and most of the guests had this look on thier faces like ''what the heck are they playing? can we get some bee gees to dance to?''

trust me, bite the bullet, please the crowd, and make your wife happy. you will share a lot more memories than having people say that the shitty music ruined the party in 5 years.

Make your wife happy? Dude, you're sentenced to bust your balls the rest of your life doing that as soon as you day "yes, I do"... Do I have to teach you everything???

Nah, ballance it out imo: spin some beats, spin some pop, spin some rock, ... Otherwise everyone will have forgotten about the party after 5 days cuz it was just one of those wedding parties like you've been at a brazillion times...

Speaking of clich?s: which will be the tune for your opening dance? I'm still waiting for the first wedding with an original opening dance instead of the usual slow on the tones of the usual corny love song. I'm going for either an argentian tango or salsa when I throw my/our party. Passion & sensuality combined with a nice wtf experience for the guests

my opening dance will be the theme song to either the jeffersons or to the theme from good times.

also, a great slow dance that i have seen is ''do you realize'' by the flaming lips. weird thing is my friend michelle's husband played it for her and she loved it.... weird.

                      Re: Wedding Tunes

this has nothing to do with this thread but its a funny story...

back in 2000 my friends andrew & heather got married. had a small reception at her dads house. we hooked up the turntables out back by the pool and me and a couple friends played music for our newly married party buddy couple.
few hours eating, drinking, mixing, and socializing with family was nice. relaxing even. so the second part of the reception was for all the friends. the groom rented out a cigar bar where they hosted local dj's, but in this case we were the dj's so my buddy and his wife got a wedding, a proper reception, and an extended reception in a make-shift club. it was awesome they ate pills and me and my buddy marc spun the beats.
so after the cigar place closed around 2 or 3am, we took the party back to our older friend Uncle Tom's house. this was the party house for years. we ended up partying til mid day or afternoon or something but the funniest part of the story happened around 10am. i was on the decks and a few friends were all standin around passin the bong and drinkin whiskey. all the sudden the front door opens and a uniformed police officer walks in. i see this and immediately turn the music down. keep in mind we're in a house in a neighborhhod where the houses are close to each other. this cop walks in and says something like "your neighbors hate you!, turn the music off" bongs and plates of other various party tools were just sitting around. had that cop come inside the house any further than the front door we all woulda been fucked. anyway, we explained to him that our boy got married and we were partying like rock stars one last time. he just told us to keep the music down, and left. scared all of us to death

                      good times!

I'm getting married next year and I am still deciding on what set or mix cd to drop towards the end. I am leaning to digweed - LA since it is my favorite comp of all time. Imagine the guests' reactions when they hear that!
