    david ortiz--

can my freshly shaven sack if he thinks that the award should only be given to power hitters. jeter is gonna top 100 RBI's in the 2 hole, isnt a liability on the feild or on the paths, and can actually hit for average. ortiz either hits a homer or hits into the shift.

when that fat fuck can push a single into a double, make a tough play in the feild, steal a base, and learn to hit to all feilds to get on base, he can talk. power is power, and the most consistent power hitter in the league is a leadoff hitter.... ichiro... go watch the guy hit batting practice.. he has monster power, but learned to play the game correctly.

he essentially says my one talent supercedes everything else you have to do in baseball. moron. enjoy vacationing in october.

the funny thing is, that for the first part of the season, even with all the media load on him, Arod lead ortiz in go ahead runs and game tying runs.

David Ortiz: "Don't get me wrong -- [Jeter's] a great player, having a great season, but he's got a lot of guys in that lineup ... Come hit in this lineup, see how good you can be"

Derek Jeter: "I don't have to do it in [Ortiz's] lineup. ... I'm not thinking about the MVP right now. We're thinking about winning a division. We've still got something to play for."

Ouch. I love Ortiz - but man he got owned by Jeter.

Almost as bad as Steinbrenner's "If I were in Boston's position, I'd be upset I couldn't seal the deal either" dig after the A-Rod sweepstakes.
        Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is not;

          Re: david ortiz--

dude, the yanks announcer right now, jim kaat and john flaherty, are ripping into ortiz... lol

but it really does come down to whether the guys will vote for a guy who, while rarely being number in any certain category is always in the top 10 for his type of player, is the best complete 5 tool player with nothing but amazing clutch timing, on the bag, swinging the bat, and feilding the ball. and he is the only real PROVEN winner around.

          or

do you want to vote for a one tool player, but this player has the biggest quirk, he is so far beyond the most dominant single tool player around, with the SCARY penchant for hitting home runs when he has to. personally, i have seen it, and it is frightening. if you are down where he can tie or win the game, he is 14 for 19, with 8 home runs, 2 doubles and 3 walks. and at every oppurtunity to break a game, he does it. its that simple.

so do want a guy who isnt the #1 in any category (maybe hitting) but is top 5-10 in every category, or the guy is who so far beyond number 1 in power, people wont even give him a chance.

and to be honest, on the red sox MVP is manny. without him, ortiz aint shit. go check the numbers. manny is the best hitter since murderer's row.

            Re: david ortiz--

Beyond numbers, what gets lost in this whole MVP debate is the definition of the award. The player that wins IS "The most valuable player to his team"..meaning without that player, the team wouldn't be shit. To me, the debate starts and ends there. You add up all the numbers to get a group of guys who contend for the MVP...about 2-3 players imo for consideration. Out of those ...THE MOST VALUABLE TO THEIR TEAM wins.

            If i'm picking right now...

            NL - Pujols
            AL - Santana

because let's face it...as close as they are, the Phillies aren't making it to the playoffs imo, which despite the fact that the MVP is voted on REGULAR season stats, if you're team doesn't get to the post season, you have to wonder if you are really THAT valuable in the grand scheme of things. (i.e.- Soriano absolutely killing it on the Nationals, but the dude is pitched to every at bat, never gets any junk, never is put in any really tense situations, because who gives a fuck if he hits a home run, the Nats are still going to loose.) So...all of this said, where would the Yanks be without Jeter? Where would the Cards be without Pujols? Where would the mets be without Beltran? Where would the Sox be without Ortiz? I can tell you where the sox would be without Ortiz...just add up his game winning walk off homers, and there's your number. Not most valuable imo considering this is a 162 game season, and the Sox aren't making the playoffs (no disrespect to the him, he's a frickin alien at the plate.) Plus, where was Ortiz when the Yanks have been spanking the Sox lately? MVPs make a big enough difference that it puts your team over the top. Ortiz is a piece of the puzzle, but not the center (i agree with sean, manny is the key.) Jeter is the key guy. Pujols is the key guy. Santana is the key guy. Howard is the key guy (on a mediocre team). Hafner is a key guy (on a mediocre team.) Soriano, sick player (on a shitty team)

            done rambling...

imo it's between these guys for MVP:

            AL-

            Jeter
            Santana

            NL-

            Pujols
            Howard

I'm probably in the minority on my picks, but this is the way i see baseball. (and please baseball writers, STFU about Beltran, the MVP on that team is Wright hands down.)

And no offense to Sightless, but before you pencil in Jeter for MVP, consider how fucking sickpants Santana has been ALL year. He hasn't lost since the break...he's not only leading in ALL three major pitching categories (ERA, wins, strikeouts), he's leading those by a freaking MILE. Really tough call on this i know, since pitchers have their own award, the Cy, but man, you really have to consider the total dominance of Santana over MLB this year and give him both awards. It's happened before, it's due to happen again. That said, i've got no problem Jeter getting the MVP, Santana aside, he's a shoe in.

            P.S.

Hey Ortiz, PICK UP A FUCKING GLOVE.

              lol...last night, Stros v. Cards...

              bottom of the 9th...

Lidge v. Pujols again, Stros up 5-4...

Pujols hits a 2 run double to win the game.

that's sure not going to help brad's confidence at all.

and until i watched sportscenter this morning, i didn't know it's not Ortiz, but in fact Pujols that leads the majors with 23 walk offs to win.

brad has been slacking all year... until he adds another pitch into his repatoire, he will continue to blow saves. especially against pujols. brad's slider is way too predictable now.

yes they need to stop barking about beltran. he was shit without delgado and REYES is the most important guy there. wright is great, but reyes makes them move.
