IDE Hitachi Hard Drive Failure!!!

Hi guys. In the specific hard drive, i used to have 300gb of livesets stored. (No windows xp installed or whatever..). So yesterday an error occured and the hard drive icon disappeared from 'My Computer' folder. I restarted my pc and the drive files (music) appear to be hidden. The strange thing is that in the hard drive properties it shows me that out of 300gb 200mb left. Just like how i left it. I did several chkdsks & fix bad sectors but it was useless. It goes up 5% and it stops. Any ideas??

your best chance of recovering the disk is to use spinrite, the analysis & recovery process is quiet slow, but it does work.
