No doubt that will be a great show (esp. w/ Glaude and Dan playing flashback sets), but under no circumstances would I refer to that as a warehouse rave. I can't even begin to explain what's wrong with that statement.

Poor in comparison to Electric Daisy Carnival. That was the spank!

oo this would be fun to check out....I missed out on the warehouse rave era by a bit. I know it wouldn't be as good as back in the day, but I am sure it would still be an experience.

Re: FYI.... SKYLAB 2006 , be jealous!

FYI - there is nothing to be jealous about.

I'm sure when Digweed came through your town on this recent go thru the USA he mightve just played the local club, nothing special, not a warehouse. I was thinking the same thing, old school rave, good vibes, great warehouse setup with multiple rooms and extensions for varying types of music.... not so much.

Out of 10 years of going to these things off and on, living on the east coast (VA) most of my life and doing massives like Radiate, Starscape, etc. and going to Nation in DC and Twilo and Crobar, etc. up in NYC i've had some great experiences at events that were produced with quality. I moved out here to Denver for a change of pace, to be near the mountains, and around people who i felt were a bit more laid back and easy going than what i experienced on the east coast. The Church in Denver and Vinyl continuously bring the talent i want, i dont get searched and pat up and down at the door to get in, with asshole bouncers telling me i cant bring gum inside, you pay, you go, and everyone is usually cool. We have Rave on the Rocks out here or Global Dance Fest as its now called. Going to see live music has always been a great experience since i moved out here.

Digweed is by far my favorite DJ and i've seen him a number of times all over the states, his New Years show in LA, in London a few times, you name it, the guy has blinded me with his talent over the years and naturally i looked forward to this Skylab event like a kid coming up to Christmas Day.

Last night was the worst of these events i've ever been to, let me just say that. The location (warehouse) looked like my elementary school back in VA. I'm not sure why this location was chosen but it was a strange vibe from the start to say the least. So there's music outside, a DJ and a small tent, all white floodlights from the outside of the building were the only lights going...except for the many glowstickers and hoola-hoopers who made the vibe outside the place to be. Not to mention it was a cool 50 degrees and lots of space to move around. But who wants to be outside when all the talent is inside? So we go inside, elbow to elbow with hundreds of other people pushing their way through this tiny garage door where there is an in and out line and security shoving flashlights inpeoples faces to get them moving so the line doesnt collapse onto the ground.

Once in, the temperature rises about 2 degrees every step you take past the DJ booth and towards the back room. Hey, i know when alot of people cram into a big room it gets hot, but why wasnt this thought about when location was chosen? it was a fucking oven in there, we never wanted to be anywhere too far from the ONE door because that was the only way you'd feel any hint of air coming in.

We did make out way to the back room once, and the music inside i couldnt tell where it was going. The flyer made you believe there'd be many rooms of music but there was only one off room and the dj tent outside besides the main room.

So with all the heat we had to get water. The only way to buy water was one little booth in the back of the main room, taking about 10 minutes of pushing and dodging people on the floor to get to from the main door. One water booth - no red bull, nothing else. Having water available outside would have been a big plus.

So anyways, my real rant is this - the vibe last night was pathetic. Way too many frat boys are showing up to these things with their shirts off and just standing around on the dance floor, standing there, either dead to the world or just looking around, i guess wanting to be seen at these things as if its the cool thing to be at. If you're not there for the music and dont want to dance then dont be on the middle of the dance floor. There were small groups of people i could tell wanted to be there to jam out to Digweed but there groups were so spaced out on the dancefloor between people just motionless that no collective vibe ever got going.

Digweed at one point asked the guy to turn off the lights in the back of the room because they remained turned on at about 3:45AM with the thing supposed to be ending at 5am. They never got shut off but for like 10 minutes and then came right back on. Digweed ended shortly after at 4:15 - 45 minutes short of when he couldve gone till - a headliner, ending EARLY at one of these??? i've never had that happen. All in all he only got to play for around 1.5 hrs. He played some monster tracks with great buildups but he couldnt get anyone going on it except for a few of us and i think he was just frustrated and gave up trying to get something going. Noone around me seemed to care though...

Remember in themovies how back in the old west you had to check your gun with the bar when you walked in, i think the same policy should be done for fucking cell phones at clubs and concerts. I've never seen so many camera phones, video phones and digital cameras going up in the air all around me. People in the middle of the dancefloor standing around on their phones, having conversations. I couldnt take it anymore. I just wanted to grab everyone i saw and chuck it across the room. Leave that shit at home. Noone wants to watch your crappy phone movie you made of a rave.

Did i mention that the primary source of lighting around the DJ booth were these hugewhite strobes?? great, strobe lights are good every now and then, but when they are used and kept on all the time it lends a sort of cracked out negative, weird vibe to the place. People dont want to be blinded unless the music is blinding and there's a huge buildup to a huge bassline being dropped. They kept these things on all night and pretty much just had those and some really good laser lights that fanned out over the crowd.

Its just a rant but everything about the setup for this thing was poorly executed. I'm sure i'll get some promoter giving me hell and telling me that i dont know how hard it is to pull one of these off - but i've been to many where they made last night look like amateur hour. Digweed was great, lets hope he'll still come back and blow up Vinyl or the Church, where great nights can still be had.

Sorry to hear it was such a let down. Sometimes a party just lacks elements that keep it from being fantastic...it sucks but it happens.

You should try and catch Digweed this NYE in LA...

                      Sasha + Digweed + JVM + an 8pm - 8am party time = rave on!

But seriously, I've never had a bad time in LA w/ Diggers on the decks. We'll be flyin out again for this one...

yes i agree the setup wasnt that good. the music was good i thought for the most part. i dont think you can hold or have raves like back in the day (me being from the east coast also!) just too hard to do & yes i agree we got to see that great talent every week, but it was nice to have it all in one shot

I still had fun, but it was very dissapointing that Digweed stopped at 4:15. Lame! And what kind of rave has VIP...
