Review: Luke Fair/John Digweed at Club Dragonfly, Niagara Falls

Great show! Ran into John in the lobby of the place hours before he went on...got to shake his hand and introduce myself...think he might have been on the way to hit the tables at the casino before the show. Anyway, Luke Fair played a good warmup set and John pretty much killed it from what I saw:
    Pryda - Frankfurt
    Pete Heller - Simpler
    Peter Gunn - Damn Words
Audiofly - Inside The Beat (DJ Remo Drifted Mix)
Lol...people were screaming for Heaven Scent & Pryda - Aftermath....unfortuanately I had to leave because I had school and work the next day early & no pics b/c I lost my phone recently ...he signed my flyer though

Sounds like a good show but that sucks about the crowd being rude though. Let the man work his magic and leave him alone.

Re: Review: Luke Fair/John Digweed at Club Dragonfly, Niagara Falls

I got there about 10:30. Club wasn't busy, Luke Fair was already on. At one point he played three breakbeat tracks and brought the dance floor to a standstill. He had some killer progressive tracks between 11:30-12. I thought it was a little fast for an opening set.

Digweed came on at 12:30. Until 2 he played lighter, airy prog with lots of melodies. Then it was about half an hour of banging techno, then into some harder progressive stuff, which I really enjoyed. Sorry, I can't ID anything.

Can't fault his mixing, of course. He didn't miss a beat anywhere. (The booth has four cdjs and 2 1200s, for those that are interested.)

I left around 3:15. Over all, a very good night, especially since it was so easy for me to get to -- an easy 20 minutes drive. The club was full but not jammed, so you could move around easily and generally find enough space to dance, especially away from the booth. I still don't understand "watching" a DJ. It's fine for 10 minutes, but all night?

Bad things? Uninteresting light show, especially considering it's a brand new venue. South East Asian decor was odd. A bunch of Buddha statues isn't compelling decoration. Small potatoes, obviously.

I'm just hoping Digger's has been recording these sets for future airplay.

This release was mastered direct from vinyl at the request of the DJ and as such features natural sound characteristics of this medium such as record surface noise.

I was eating dinner at 1030, didn't start until 5 past 11 maybe...and I don't think I own three breakbeat tunes, let alone play them in a row.

Also, my tempo was 126 BPM...any slower might bring the dancefloor to a standstill.

wow what a great night. it started with me making $60 at the roulette table in 3 minutes. then we saw john and luke heading towards the lobby while we were heading downstairs to the club. my buddy coulndt stop laughing at digweed's haircut. luke got the place rocking with a great warmup up set. i recognized a few tracks but can't ID any. Digweed came on i think around 12:15 or so and proceeded to kill it until 3:30. he started wiith some softer progressive for a while and then dropped into some super hard dark stuff for the rest of the night. i also remmeber about 30 minutes of some crazy "trentemollerish" tech stuff that was killer. crowd was great from where i was which was about 20 feet back vfrom the booth in the center of the floor (no need to DJ watch). some dude there had a conch that he blew a few times which i found pretty hilarious. lots of high fives throughout the night. only bad thing was they ended at 3:30am. i could've partied all night, but oh well, still and amazing night with two of the best DJ's in the world. cant complain about that.
