FRISCO, Texas Frisco school trustees aren't renewing the contract of a veteran art teacher who was reprimanded because a student saw a nude sculpture during a museum visit.

Sydney McGee has been on paid administrative leave from Fisher Elementary School since Friday.


McGee's contract runs through the end of the school year.


Board members declined to take questions after their closed meeting tonight. They have previously said there were concerns over McGee's performance.


Her attorney, Rogge Dunn says he would wait for written clarification from the school district to decide how to proceed.


McGee's attorney says the teacher's troubles started after taking 89 students on a school field trip to the Dallas Museum of Art in April. The principal later admonished McGee about the trip, telling her a parent complained about a student seeing nude art.

there is nothing wrong with the parent concerned about children being exposed to things they disagree with.

It is not up to the teacher to decide if something is acceptable for children. It is the choice of the parents.

Several ways to have handled this situation.

1. "A veteran art teacher" should know that there would have been questionable art.
2. Should have informed the parents of the possibility.
3. A permission letter should have been sent home.

Let the parents decide what they want their children exposed to.

The teacher is completely at fault.

Questionable art? Is that like Entartete Kunst like with the Nazis? No really, that actually shocked me...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder buddy, so is obscenity. Makes me wonder how morally ill some people are these days to find a nude statue offensive. If you're one of those people, I suggest you get some therapy.

jesus cowardly, it's the dallas museum of art not tex's all nudie review... and i'm fairly sure the parents knew their children were going on a field trip... to a museum..... of art. of course it only takes one parent out of 89 to ruin things for everyone (the other 88 kid's parents apparently have brains). everyday shit like this gets us closer to the days of burning witches and the like. (even then art was recognized as being art not pornography). i can hear the conversation now.... "what did you see today on your field trip honey?". "we saw paintings, and sculptures. one of the sculptures was old and the person was naked". "What!!! a nude sculpture in a well known museum? My God, your eyes, mind and body have been poisoned by art!".... what a bunch of fucktards...
