I love my iPod too. Especially the battery that can't be replaced which only lasts 45 minutes now.
Making me use iTunes EVERY SINGLE TIME I want to add or remove a track is quality too.
And I love the fact that you have to hold down the play button for 5 seconds to turn it off. And I love that it turns on when I remove to dock cord which requires the aforementioned 5 second play button press followed by putting it in hold mode. Jesus, would a power button/slider be too "confusing" for the user Apple?
Glad I got mine free because it's practically useless.
Think you are a little out of date . The battery is replaceable and Apple will do it for you, but in fact you can buy battery kits with the tool needed to change it yourself.
BIPOD5C NewerTech NuPower Replacement Li-Polymer Battery for select Apple iPod 5th Generation & iPod Classic models. Includes nylon pry tools. Professional installation recommended.
Don't you have to use some sort of program with other devices? I find itunes a pretty good program.
Do agree the on/off button would be good.

So, as for me i LUV my iPod, got me a 6bg mini half a year ago from the states. The fucker works perfect. If i let it play without touching it it will go for over 10 hours (ok normally i would never do that).
I got rockbox on it so iTunes can shampoo my crotch, I just load the tracks on it like it was an external harddrive plus it plays all important formats now i.e. ogg, flac, mpc and of course mp3. you have ahitload of options to tune it just the way you like it.
My mini has a linout (though i had to buy a turbodock) whick paves the way for my headphoneamplifier to take my into audio heaven (how pathetic).
So far absolutely no problems appeard to me. I bought it used so no money gain for Apple.
Actually I do have a negative, but it probably applies to most of these devices. Headphones!! I bought myself a nice pair of sennheiser headphones , Love em!!

you can definatly replace the battery, if you dont want yours ill take it though
Thanks for the heads up on the battery replacement. I knew apple would do it for $99 (now down to $59). But, aparently, they sell kits now with special tools and instructions.
Gee, you think maybe putting a battery access door on it would make just a little sense?
C|Net has a whole series on replacing the battery. LOL. I can't imagine any other company having a 7-part custom series on how to dig into their player to replace a battery. Quality.

upgrade batteries? as in extended life beyond a normal ipod battery? i'd definitely be interested in something like that...
The 1st generation ipod mini had relatively poor battery life. The 2nd gen (includes the 6GB) had better battery performance. So, it seems like the replacement kits have the better batteries. It looks like you have to damage the case somewhat to get into the unit...
