    sean your argument is like me trying to tell you where to get the best slice of pizza in NY. but it's a pointless one, since you've already made it up in your mind you're what you want to believe. so...i digress...

    are you even enjoying baseball right now, self proclaimed fan of all fans?

      ask toasty, i called his ass last night while he was at the game, and ben and jose (-two) were nice enough to turn off soccer to let me catch the game at ruby's place.

      like i said, i love the game above all else. i went to over 30 games this season and that was a low mark for the last few years. its my game, and there is so much more to it than the yanks for me. i watched most of chase utleys games during his streak, manny as well. also a huge fan of watching the phillies and marlins during the second half, i saw every pitch after the third inning of sanchez's perfect game too.

        sweet.

        then lets both talk about what's happening right now instead of what some fucktard sportswriter has to say, and all that nonsense OUTSIDE of the game itself. making a story about anything other than the game right now is retarted. which is why i respect larussa for not making a huge deal out of pine tar boy on the hump for detroit.

        this series is fantastic to me, and i'm not the least bit sorry the half ass fans across the nation can't get into two teams from the heartland slugging and pitching it out.

          Re: baseball

          to you and me, this is a good series, a little disappointing in that the tigers arent making a game with ordonez and polanco looking like arod. but good pitching rules, it creates a tenseness in the game while you wait for ''THE INNING" to occur, watching guys get out of jams like rodney did last night despite two errors....

          there are so many comparisions to life when it coems to the game......

          the kids
          canoe, melky, howard, verlander, zuamaya, reyes, wright, papelbon, liriano

          the gods
          jeter, pujols, arod (to a degree), ortiz, bonds, manny,

          the heroes
          rolen, edmunds, jeter, aaron fucking boone, edgar martinez, brocious and martinez in 98, ordonez in the ALCS, those who arent neccessarily great players, but seem to be in the mix when it counts

          the ACES
          carpentier, rogers, moose, david cone, clemens, pettite, santana, schilling, becett, willis...

          obviously there are so many more. the big moments, the gutty plays, tough at bats that lead to advancing runners. guys like so taguchi pinch hitting in big spots and laying down a double in the gap.....

            Re: baseball

            tell you what, too -- at the risk of trumpeting my good fortune too much, doing the little switcheroo thing with my tickets ended up being a huge score for me. Ended up with seats for tonight's game, and got to watch yesterday's game 5 friggin' rows off the field just inside the right field foul pole.

            The scene at Busch last night was just incredible; the energy in there was off the scale. When Eckstein hit that double off of Zumaya, it was like everything slowed down while the ball was in the air. He hit the ball, the place erupted for just a split second, then got quiet as we all watched Monroe close on the ball. I swear it looked like he was going to get there. Then, it went off the end of his glove and Busch instantly filled with sound again, louder than I've ever heard it, and that includes numerous playoff games, McGwire's home run chase, all of it. It was just bedlam, and if I didn't have tickets tonight, I'd be sure it would be the crowning moment of my sports-watching existence.

            Can't wait for tonight -- just got to get this rain out of the picture...

            just had to get that off my chest -- am bursting here

              not feeling too optimistic about this game tonight -- check out this radar:

              This system seems to be just hanging over St. Louis, and we are getting drenched. Even if it stops raining, I could see there still being some drainage issues for a while...

                Mike Shannon rules after a budweiser or ten. He might take some getting used to for out of towners, but around here he's pretty much a legend. I was driving in from out of town last night while the game was ppd, and Mike's broadcast was still running, because they didn't know when if the game was going to start or not, so he basically told old baseball stories for a few hours. All his times with Kofax, Gibson, staying out really late on game nights getting lit...It was awesome. He gets all giggly about old time baseball. Shannon is a throwback.
                Had someone forward me this list of Shannonisms, seemed apropos to share it here:

                * "This big standing-room only crowd is settling into their seats."
                * "It's raining like a Chinese fire drill!"
                * (After Brian Jordan was hit by a pitch for the 4th time on a single road trip):
                "Jordan must feel like a Ouija Board."
                * (Referring to Bernard Gilkey):
                "He was originally born in University City."
                "He's faster than a chicken being chased by Ronald McDonald!"
                * (Referring to Mike Schmidt):
                "the longtime, and soon-to-be, Hall-of-Famer."
                * (Referring to Hideo Nomo):
                "He's the biggest thing to hit Japan since they dropped the bomb on Nagashima!"
                * "This game is off to a rather conspicuous start, don't you think. Jack?"
                * "Well, folks, this game began as a tiny worm, and is blossoming into a large cobra."
                * "That foul tip bounced up and caught him right in the groins...and that'll really clear your eyes out."
                * "A hit up the middle right now would be like a nice ham sandwich and a cold, frosty one."
                * (Broadcasting from New York under a full moon):
                "I wish you folks back in St. Louis could see this moon."
                * (On the day before Easter):
                "I just want to tell everyone 'Happy Easter and Happy Hanukkah.'"
                * "Things are not always as they appear to be as."
                * "Well, he did everything right to get ready for the throw, but if ya ain't got the hose, the water just won't come out."
                * "Our next homestand follows this road trip."
                * (Referring to a home run by Ted Simmons):
                "and that's the bread on Simmons' butter."
                * "The right-hander is throwing up (instead of 'up, throwing') in the bullpen."
                * "I've heard it said that if you know English, Spanish, Italian, and I think it's French, you can go just about anywhere in this world...except China where they have all those derelicts."
                After a pause, Joe Buck suggested that Mike has meant to say "dialects." Mike responded, "Yeah, dialects! That's what I mean...but they've got a lot of derelicts too!"
                * "He ran to second faster than a cat in Chinatown."
                * "I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't believed it."
                * "Don't bite off your head to spite your nose."
                * Joe: "Mike, the Cardinals would like to welcome a group of 19 French foreign exchange students in Section 382."
                Mike: "Where're they from, Joe?"
                Joe: "Uhh, France, I think."
                * A couple of years back, Mike and Joe were discussing the unflattering photographs of players that had been flashed on the screen at another ballpark. Mike's take on the quality of the photo selection was:
                "Some of those guys look like the picture was taken while they were seeing their first UFO."
                After several seconds of laughter, Joe added, "As opposed to their second or third."
                * "The wind switched 360 degrees."
                * "Boy, a cold, frosty Budweiser would be great about now"...long pause...then an "ahhh"
                * Mike's classic: "Ol' Abner Doubleday has done it again."
                * "It's raining so hard I thought it was going to stop."
                * "The crowd's on their feet for the Canadian Star Bangled Banner."
                * "Back in the day when I played, a pitcher had 3 pitches: a fastball, a curveball, a slider, a changeup and a good sinker pitch."

                  woo, i'm back! philadelphia is cold!

                  glad to see the cardinals putting up a great fight in the WS this year. makes me feel better that the astros took a close second in that division. and the weather, imo, can only help the cardinals. so if it rains, you might even be able to start carpenter tomorrow. that would be wonderful for st. louis.

                          OK, another weather report from the Lou. Although it's still pretty crappy right now, we're on the back end of a system that should be past us here in the pretty near future, and the heavy stuff is well past us. The intel right now is that it might be a little bit late, but they're playing tonight...

                                Congratulations to St. Louis! I'm an Astros fan, but was glad to see the Cards win. They may be an Astros rival, but I respect their team. I'm also glad to see the National League finally beat the American League. The previous two World Series were American Leagues sweeps and we kept hearing about the big superiority of the AL. I still think the AL is a better league, but hopefully we're starting to see it even up with the Cards win.

                                As for the game itself, that Pujols defensive play throwing out the runner on his back was awesome. And why the hell didn't Kenny Rogers pitch for Detroit?
