    GPS units

I want to get my guy a GPS unit for christmas...it will come in quite handy in his work truck for heading to jobs and stuff. I hear they get stolen quite a bit so i would like to get one that is removable so say at the end of the day it comes in the house?

I dont know anything about them at all...what price range are they? I tried googling and it all looks like spanish to me!

    jeanine pirro part 2 IMO.

you can avoid it getting stolen if they install the thing on a wire as opposed to a mount so he can slip it under a seat or in a glove box.

      Re: GPS units

depends on how much money you want to spend

      Garmin 660 (around $1100) or Garmin 360 ($900) or Garmin 350 ($700)

They are all the same series but have more features as the price goes up

you can read my feedback here - http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...615#post458615

Someone told me I should get : http://www.magellangps.com/products/gps_units.asp do you guys agree its a good unit for the price?

Hmm Ill check your link kamal, I dont know anything even regarding the features or what is or isnt needed.

I dont need an mp3 player along with it...ideally i just want good driving directions, maps, and the voice that speaks and says which street to turn etc etc.

just ask me whatever you want about the 3

Basic features available to all 3
          1. TTS (Text to speech) built into it so instead of telling you to turn "right" in 200 feet, it'll tell you "Turn right on XYZ Street".
          2. If you miss your turn, it wont tell you to make a U Turn but re-calculate your destination and tell you next steps.
          3. Over 6 million points of interests with incredible listing of side streets (I live in the armpit of MD and lanes that are 20 feet long with 1 house at the end are listed on this unit)
          4. Built in MP3 Player.
          5. Travel overseas with it, just purchase the additional European maps.
          6. Built in language translator (need to purchase language packs)
          7. SD Card Slots

what does the memory have to do with it? does it save all the places you go to? why do some have large memory capabilities?

would you say the nuvi 350 with 700 mg is decent then? it seems to have all the requirements for him, we dont need language packs, how big are the maps size wize? Does ti come with the maps already installed or do you install them all?

                  Re: GPS units

the 350 comes with maps of North America (USA & Canada) in addition to Puerto Rico pre-installed on the unit and so I'm not really sure how large they are. Moreover, you can also purchase updated maps 2 - 3 years down the line and update the unit.

You have 700 MB over and above the space that the maps take up. If you dont care for bluetooth connectivity with your mobile, save the $200 and get the extended warranty on a Nuvi 350 instead. 700 MB is plenty if you're not listening to 80MB sets. Then again, you can always purhcase a 2 GB SD Card for like $60 and put more sets on it.

The best news I have heard is that Navteq (one of 2 companies) that provides the mapping data for the Nuvi will be tying up with Zagat entertainment and will come preloaded with information that will allow navigation users to view detailed information regarding restaurants, hotels, golf courses and nightlife establishments in over 40 North American cities directly on the navigation screen.

I was actually going to get the TomTom 910 but the guy at Circuit City himself told me not to buy because the return rate (due to the unit crashing) is more than 60%

There you have a handheld pc, phone and gps unit in one unit.
