Well Senator Frist has done it - snuck in a last minute footnote to the port security bill and made online gambling illegal essentially. Basically it will make transactions difficult between players and the sites. Stocks of some of the publically traded sites in London have crashed, some may be pulling out of the US market altogether, but some are staying put (Full Tilt, Pokerstars)
It's too early to tell what the long term effects are and many feel that there are plenty of ways around the law - (Neteller, offshore bank accounts etc)
It will be interesting to see if some executives of the sites (Howard Lederer, Chris Ferguson etc are made examples of and arrested - doubtful but you never know.)
The numbers may seriously decline as the very casual player may decide it is too difficult to deposit.
I hate my backward country. I just may change my party.
