this might be the best news this music scene has had in several years. Seems like after they went down things started to change in the scene. It is almost a close coinsidence that after that label died Prog started its slow trek into the abyss of the "that song is so last year" saying
Greatly rejoicing in following God as a freedom not a choice.

Who bought out hooj choons again? or at least their back catalogue? I remember reading this once and am just wondering who's really behind this "reopening".

city16.com is what hooj used to redirect to, Lost Language continued putting out a load of shit records after hooj closed.. not sure who bought them tho

i always liked their mission statment or whatever.. occasional providers of half decent house

Good news if its still Red Jerry and the crew behind the label. I'd hate for someone to restart the label without the experience of the original Hooj crew.

Deeper Shades of Hooj was my earliest brush with the label and I've been a fan since

Re: Hooj back from the dead?!

The label is owned by John Pitcher who bought the rights to the catalogue when it folded. Other labels he owns are Lost Language / Airtight / Primal Recordings / Solaris Recordings and of course the now ceased City 16 site.

One thing to note - these remixes came out on Release Records last year and the ambient mix is from 2000 and was featured on one of Red Jerry's Chilled Euphoria compilations.

Re: Hooj back from the dead?!

awesome news...I think they just couldn't feel like they could compete when the digital revolution started coming around...problem may be IMO the amount of money made compared to where they were. Now, you *can* still do relatively well in MP3 releasings if you do it right and understand the money isn't quite as much as it used to be when releasing vinyl. If they can put their names on some sponsorships for events as well, THAT will still go a long way in things.

If they can come back and be viable, well...welcome back!

That is great news. Loved the labe and most big dj's did too, just looking back at older tracklistings... all kinds of Hooj!
