My good friend Peter just messaged me a few minutes ago to tell me his common law wife Sue Ellen is leaving him. He said he had no idea it was coming, she just came home from work 3 days ago and said "I don't see us having a future together" and then she took a few things and left. She didn't want to work on it or really discuss it and just left (she was crying when she left). He hasn't heard from her since.

I feel absolutely awful as he loved her so much.....he hasn't been able to eat or sleep since she left

My gut tells me she found someone else...but probably cause I was cheated on when I lived with my ex, so maybe I am jumping to conclusions....what are your thoughts?

Also, when it comes to common law and you own a house what happens? Is it like a divorce and they have to split the assets even though it was his house to begin with (only in his name as well)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

first he needs a weekend of total brutal debauchery ... i dont think he needs to worry about the house if its only his name on the papers ..... as for her .. who knows you girls act funny from time to time .. no gain in losing his mind thinking what was the reason for her leaving ..
he must be feeling shitty .. take him out to a good partey !!!

I would take him out, but North Bay is about 10-12hrs away from where I live...some of his buddies that live there with him are coming over on the weekend to help him keep his mind off things

if she was crying when she left, maybe it was something else. never jump to conclusions, but the fact that she hasn't given him the time to even explain is pretty rude. maybe she caught herpes.

Hmm thats abit strange. If he didnt see it coming then maybe she did cheat and felt really guilty. I mean you know when your partner is acting off with you anyway.

It's when you live together for 6months or more as a couple. You are then deemed common law. Its a legal unofficial marriage

I thought it was 2 years living together.
