youtube & copyright

everybody's always telling me to watch out for copyright infringement when it comes to creating a website that for example would host or show pictures, movies, ...

I even got mails in the past saying that I had to remove that one picture that had copyright on it...

I wonder, how does youtube get away with all these movies on their website? like Beavis & Butthead episodes, video trailers, shows, commercials or whatever?

is it legal for them to host this stuff? or are they just rich enough to get lawyers of their asses?

once they are warned, they take it down, they are a public site where we uplaod to them, so they deal with it as it comes.

^^yup, and i think that is how google is going to get away w/o getting sued to death. they will either make big contracts with sony, etc and have them say the content is legal and that will be that. or if someone complains they will take it down, i guess the dmca allows for this, if a site isnt making a direct profit off of the video.

should just move their servers to international waters...would save 'em alot of hassle.

some companies forcefully go after these types of things, others probably either don't have the manpower/staffing for it, or really don't give a crap...
