Re: Executed Tonite
I have the book on this guy (Gainsville Ripper). Very horrific what he did to those girls, but I still sit on the fence with the death penalty.
I love reading true crime, it is a hobby of mine as back in the day I wanted to be a lawyer and got into these books. After all of the horrific novels I have read about people doing such disgusting, unimaginable things to people, I still can't say for sure that I think the death penalty is the right decision in the endsigpic

Re: Executed Tonite
I still don't get how the dealth penalty in many areas costs more then lifetime imprisonment...is it median costs, hiring the most expensive people, high billings to the state...
beyond that I agree...one bullet, one gun, cheap, easy, dead, goodnight.,,or 2 if there's a horrible shooterFM

Re: Executed Tonite
there are too many pros and cons.
closure is obviuosly one.
cost another.
but what if you are wrong???
if they rot in jail then they suffer too. death is an easy option in that sense.
its too difficult to call.
personally i'd let them all have to spend a night with beanz. that will learn them!

Re: Executed Tonite
Good question/thread..
Personally I think that if he had killed one of my kids then I would want to pull the trigger myself. However from a more detached point of view, you could suggest that he is just a very mentally disturbed man who needs psychological help. The best place for him is prison because he is a danger to the public but I cant help feeling that the whole 'eye for an eye' mentality (despite subscribing to it myself to an extent) is pretty primitive and barbaric. You hear about these people who kill their kids in cold blood and it is easy to say 'they are evil killers so kill them', but then the killer says things like they thought the world was too evil for their children and they wanted to spare them any suffering. Clearly a bit mad but not necissarily an evil person..
This case is particularly bad though.... such a difficult dilemma..[quote=lilsensa '] 'Who wants to sample size my ball sack?'Comment

Re: Executed Tonite
ive read many opinions about death penalty, and people saying is a much greater punishment to keep this people locked up, than execute them..personally i think the feeling of impotence and the feeling of death inside their cells hours before their executions, is the real punishment and there is probably no worse feeling than that..Comment

Re: Executed Tonite
there have been FAR too many cases where they've later found inmates on death row to be completely innocent to justify it being ok. people make SHITTY witnesses, sorry to tell you all. Most people can't recal what they have just seen, let alone something traumatic or a few months in the past. the longer you wait, the more your mind changes what really happened.
life in prison, yes. but as humans we are just far too falable to claim we're able to administer the death penalty fairly and accurately and anyone who thinks different is deluding themselves.
and eye for and eye, yes...but keep reading that book and it also says God is the only one who gets to kill people.Comment
