Fo sho. I discovered some of those places when I was house hunting this time last year and was thinking about finding an old place and rehabbing it. There's just not enough development yet in that area to justify taking that financial risk, tho -- apart from the sketchiness factor...

You have a lot of the perks of a big city without a lot of the pitfalls. We've got the (World Champion) Cardinals, the Rams, etc., great restaurants, Forest Park, which is a huge park smack in the city that houses our free zoo, free art museum, free history museum, and free shows. Most any concert you would want to see will make a stop in St. Louis, and there's really not much that you would want to do that isn't available to us. Housing is very affordable relative to other cities, traffic is reasonable, and, despite the story that started this thread, crime isn't a huge problem, at least in the areas I spend my time. Also, although it is a fairly large city (I think the metro area is like 3 million), it's still a very friendly place, and it feels more like a big town.

                  Re: Stay away from Jenks...

We definitely get all 4 seasons, so that can be good or bad depending upon your take. Summers are hot and humid -- not uncommon to crest 100 at all. Winters can get pretty cold and we'll see some snow, but not a lot most of the time and the really cold weather tends to be limited to the odd bunch of days here and there. Spring and fall are quite nice around here, as is the case pretty much everywhere. It does rain, but not an excessive amount.

All around fairly pleasant (with the exception of July which tends to be punch-you-in-the-face hot) but I wouldn't ever suggest that anyone come to St. Louis because it's got such great weather. We see the whole range, and as they say around here, "If you don't like the weather in Missouri, just hang around for 15 minutes or so."

Your question reminds me -- true story: when I was in college at Mizzou, which is about 2 hours due west of St. Louis, I went to class one day wearing a pair of shorts and a sweatshirt -- was probably in the mid-60s. I was in class for a couple of hours, and when I came out, it was fucking snowing. Crazy shit...

Hot humid summers aren't fun at all. But why am I complaining, I live in PA.

1st, who would of thunk it that st louis had anything tough.
2nd, I have to admit, Miami did some cleanning up. I remember that if you were white and got off of I-95 on the wrong exit, your ass was grass. Tourists were getting robbed and killed left and right. Now, Miami is not even on the list.

I still think Camden, NJ is worse than any place even Iraq except for Sean's hood. Fuckn CPA's

the crime idea tends to be a bit misleading though...a lot of it these days is perpetrated by idiots who happen to know or be acquainted with each other, be it through drug dealings, gangs, etc. It's not like it's all random drive-bys and just shooting and stabbing up whomever you feel like.

By the same token, psychologically is where it takes its toll on people and makes them feel "unsafe.."

City I live near is #30 on the list...kind of fits, but a lot of the crime is as aforementioned.
..but it's still rundown in most spots, whilst populated...good strips of rehabbing available, but the ROI I don't think is quite there yet.
