Kamal, let me put my thinking cap on and I can try to help out. This sounds lika a good idea. I know I don't upload a lot of stuff but it nice to get a thanks every once in while. I will not name any names but there are a couple user on here that deserve a lot of ass kissing b/c of all the stuff the upload every week. Then to see to there links posted in other forums with someone else taking the credit for that user's hard is pretty sad. Kamal let me know if there is anything I can do.

this might be modified to allow downloads, i dont see it as as obvious option on the website, but it looks really nice. uses php/mysql and ajax. looks like the netjukebox app above, mainly used for streaming. might mess w/ it when i get home and see if you can d/l files with it.

i just installed mp3act and there is an option to allow all users to download and upload files...

i messed around quickly here at work with downloading some tracks and it seems a bit squirrly. i am trying to download one track and it seems to be sending all of the tracks in the archive over in .zip format. plus you have to up your memory_limit variable in your php.ini or the send will fail.
it looks like the server is allocating a bunch of memory when each send happens if i am looking correctly so it might not be the best thing to serve up 10 different 100m files at the same time with..

but i will mess w/ it some more when i am back at home and can actually spend some time w/ it

Just a suggestion, I know you guys are looking for another apporach but....

What about having one of the flash guys here write an app or script so a user could submit a link from megaupload or something and the links would be hidden in flash.

Although it wouldnt hide the link 100% but it would make it a pain in the ass for the theives to grab them so easily and post on other boards.

Yes I know a lot of people hate flash but if you made something simple it shouldnt be that bad.

Again, this is just a thought, I dont even know if this could be done for sure.

No I dont think you can, well at least legally.

Im still talking about the using the links that megaupload (MU) provides (or any file sharing service for that matter).

For example:

A user would upload a set as they normally would to MU.

The user would then come to MS and submit the link through an app which would scramble the MU link and store it in a database and the app would also generate a "new link" which the user would post into the thread. By app, I mean a php app.


Then the person wanting the set would click on the "new link" which would get descrambled by the app and the original MU link would be presented.


Does that make any sense?

Its almost like what MU does now but instead of uploading a file, the user uploads a link and the user is provided a new download link.


People could still technically steal the "new links" but who cares because clicking the link would force the browser to come back to MS to descramble. So whoever uses the link knows the set came from MS.


Like I said this is an entirely different approach than the one you were originally talking about. Just trying to help with some ideas.

to code the link scrambler would be more work than installing a custom app, which I apologize for sitting on cause I've had mad days at work to test stuff, hopefully this weekend
