So you really expect to believe that only the intelligent ones are serving on the front lines? I'm sure they're led by intelligent people though.

How about the girl who was photographed, arrested and jailed for her participation in the Abu Ghraib prison, but was diagnosed as mentally handicapped? If that's the kind of back-office jobs they give the "less educated", do you really think that's helpful?

and the Republicans are actually better at this? They managed to hold together a diverse group of interests for only so long, what we're seeing now is the fallout when you can't really appease all the groups.

That's politics in general here in this country. It's cyclical. Get people to think you're better and keep voting for you and then eventually they realize you're just not and the tide switches to the other political party so we could do it all over again. Unfortunately, at the moment, no one's stepped up.

I think one answer to all these problems is making it LAW that citizens MUST vote. Or at least show up at the voting poll. We currently see less then 50% voter turn out. I bet the libertarian and independant candidates would win hands down if we had 100% voter turnout.

which is why i wrote ''the special ed students living in DC"

and actually, the repub are better at courting the normal middle income american...most of them share common ideas, not execution, with the party's long term goals. but the repubs say fuck off to the specail money too much to stand a long term chance at this rate.

                Re: kerry, yet again....

The thing here is that what Kerry said was totally right. If you grow up going to the level of public schools we currently have in this country then you really have few options: Sports, Army, Crime and or welfare. I said this on Monday night to my roommate and girlfriend and they agreed and then the next day, when I read this I was like-fuck thank god someone said this finally. It’s a good thing that I’m not a politician because clearly coming right out and saying this doesn’t go over well but the fact is, while we spend more and more money in Iraq on a USELESS we’re letting our schools and other publicly funded programs fall apart. As the schools fall apart, so do the arts and so do any real ways out of the ghettos. We also are increasingly giving tax breaks to BIG BUSINESS that outsources all of the labor (another former possibility for undereducated people) and we now are just a nation of consumers. The fact is, you do wind up in Iraq if you’re a good (albeit undereducated) person from low income areas of the country with ASS schools. And Sean, it’s complete bollocks to say that it’s the highly trained people on the ground-it’s not. The infantry is always the worst of the lot, they’re just bodies to push through until the really skilled people can get into place.

you all need to look up what really happens in the military, i know firsthand. the ''gunners'' might not be the high IQ folks on the think tank side, but they are all schooled heavily in a certain area. the dumbshits get back line jobs like prison gurads.. im not getting in this, but you guys need to go ask an actual serviceman, instead of us here.

first step, research what an MOS number is.

most frontline infantry are educated in geography, biology, and engineering.

Fish, you are way off on what ya said.

hehe, Alex a politician...I could just see it now, you'd be booted out of elections faster than Howard Dean in Iowa

Not to ridicule what you said, cause I agree with most of it. We could keep talking about this and that, but at the end of the day our educational system sucks and this discussion just further proves it. We don't educate our children and they grow up dumb, then they join the army "to do something important" and then actually get a good education on how to fight the war, hence they're properly trained. It's a catch-22.
