there is a ton of education that military personnel get, but that usually is reserved for officers...and using West Point, one of the finest educational (and best military) institutions in the country, as a starting point is a bit over the top. The education that regular infantry men get is a bit different. You can't tell me the education that they get is the same, especially if they were mentally handicapped to begin with. They may get specialized training, so when they fight they're capable, but that doesn't make them educated, just disciplined...there's a difference.

no, bush knows what he is saying, but doesnt know why.

edit:: reason:: evidenced by his backing of the same stupid topic time after time. kerry seems to forget what he said 3 hours ago.

the point here, is 'motivation', providing you show the basic intelligence to handle the feild, the army will not turn any enlisted soldier from a feild, outside of law and intelligence. if you want it, you can get the best training out there.

and Kerry didn't know what he was saying? I believe he did, just didn't realize that it would be twisted into the usual you don't support our troops BS.

You can't seriously be trying to compare Kerry's intellect to Bush's? Ineptness, perhaps...

but presumed in that statement is that you have the ability to want it.

Also, you say the army will turn down for intelligence, but doesn't the lowering of standards over the last few years as compared to all the many years before that with higher satndards show there's something wrong or are you actually suggesting that our standards were too high for too long and they're finally starting to realize that now and lower the standards? Doesn't the fact that these standards were lowered over a number of different steps suggest that there may be other reasons for lowering them?

you mean the same Bush who ran a number of companies into the ground so much so that even his daddy's friends got tired of helping him out?

No kidding. Kerry may be a lot of things, but the guy ain't dumb. As compared to Bush, though, there's really no comparison. People like Bush because they can relate to him, but for me its a bit frightening to have someone holding the most powerful office in the land that I doesn't have an air of even basic intelligence. Clinton was a slick guy who was always doing what he could to ingratiate himself to the public, but when it came down to brass tacks, the guy was smart as a whip. Bush, on the other hand, I feel like I could beat at Scrabble -- and by the way, that's not intended to be me patting myself on the back.

Bottom line: if Bush came under this type of fire every time he misspoke, he would have been impeached years ago.

Kerry's apologized now. Does that mean this story will die?
