Originally posted by live1I didn't recognize any tracks, but there's one that was definately noteable (well, more than one, more like ONE HUNDRED) that was near the last 1/3 of the set where there was this evil pulsating and vibrating sound brewing down under the floor that built up for a long while and scared the shit out of me. Once it broke I've never seen so many people joyfully accept being prosecuted in hell.
along those same lines, there was one tune that had an "ooooooo" vocally sound underneath it that took me about 5 minutes to figure out whether it was actually the track or my mind fucking with me. turns out it was the track indeed. if anyone could id it, that'd be fantastic.
songs i recognized:
unknown mix of BPT - Moody
unknown mix of Chable & Bonnici - Ride (guess King Unique? I dunno)
3rd track from desyn's feb 04 aria mix, housey number, still trying to id.Comment

Re:: DIGWEED @ SOUND-BAR, CHICAGO --->Top Notch Set!!
wow, i'm surprised you guys didn't hear him wreck a mix a few tracks into his set... that surprised me. also, he almost let a track run out and he ran off stage three times near the end of his set... somethin' was up... i've seen digweed, numerous times and i'd have to say this was by far the worst set i ever heard him play. i was let down, to say the least. while all the tracks were bangin', it seemed to get old after a while and he never really got into his deep dark shit, it was just was just relentless hard pounding prog - which is tight, but not what i had hoped for. the best set i ever heard him play was when he was in chicago last year and played at the congress theater... now that shit was sick!! all of you that were there know what i'm talking about!!all in all, i had a blast and definitely heard some great tunes.. can't wait 'till he comes back!!!
i reject your reality, and substitute my own.

For me, the night went as so.
Upon arrival we were directed to the lower level (the main room was not to open until 11) where a couple of the local boys were warmin it up. (uncertain of whom)
They started the night off with some rather smooth and deep house sounds. Only down side of the hour that I caught from em was when they accidentally dropped the house volume, which was corrected once influx brought it to thier attention.
11 rolled around and we headed upstairs where a screen was dropped in front of the main room as the upstairs bars finished stocking thier stations. At this point James Lauer was on the decks (until about 11:30) playing some solid tunes. Although his mixing was solid it sounded more like a headlining set that that of an opener. At one point the bar manager (?) stepped into the booth and actually pitched down the cd he was playing quite a great deal. Shortly thereafter Desyn hit the tables.
For me this portion of the evening was the best part. Desyn began with a slightly quirky acidy style that carried quite well for this portion of the night and the crowd (maybe 50-70 at this point) was definitely getting into it. He moved into a heavy progressive sound that evolved into some really slamming tracks. He continued dropping these heavy throbbing beats until about 1:45. (although Digweed had been in the bar for about a half hour and was supposedly playing a 3 hr. set)
So just before 2, John hit the decks and his first few tracks really caught my attention. His first tune made the transition from Desyn's harder style into that signature dark, dirty sound that put him on the map. A few tracks later he started bridging in some more trance elements and carried that sound for a rather great while... Between 2:30 and 3:00 he had really lost my attention. John had left the stage once and had one pretty bad wreck. At this point I wandered over to the bar with a friend and had a couple cocktails and let my ears recovcer.
Around 3:20 we decided we were about ready to go and wandered back out to the dance floor for the last taste of Digweed for the year. By the time we got back out there John had picked it up considerably, however at this point he seemed very distracted. I had noticed they were having trouble with the right set of monitor speakers earlier in the night and I thought perhaps this may have had something to do with it. But over the next 20 minutes John left the stage twice. Upon his return the second time his track had dwindled so close to the end that he just faded it out and cued the next one in. At this point we decided it was time to head out.
Overall, John's set was a bit dissapointing but Desyn really made up for it. I will be looking forward to catchin D at blast in November.Comment
