You've got to think that this was in the works -- why didn't Bush announce this a couple of days ago? I guess on the one hand, it would kinda show weakness, but it would also show some much needed flexibility.

That would be my guess. With all signs pointing towards Dem. victory it was either lock arms or abandon ship - staying true to form they closed their eyes and held on tight.

I think the only reason rummy's resigning is because of what happened during the election and Bush's fear that now the dems will actually be able to ask the tough questions of rummy in congress.

I think you're 100% right -- and it also suggests that the answers to those questions may not cast the most positive light on things...

here's the interesting part, by rumsfeld's resignation it is an admission of fault by the administration, because anything that Rummy did Bush signed off on...let's see how that one plays out.

he shoudl have done this about 3 years ago. i honestly thought he owuld have done it about 2 weeks ago in an attempt to savehis ass, but alas, they proved too stupid.
