yeah I was thinking bout this one when I heard the news and thought wouldn't it have been a better move to have booted him out a few weeks back when he may have saved the republicans from this trouncing, but alas I believe Bush was just too damn cocky and never thought this would really happen...in his reality of course

I think the only reason rummy's resigning is because of what happened during the election and Bush's fear that now the dems will actually be able to ask the tough questions of rummy in congress.

yep...if you're before the election, you say that he's staying and that you have 100% faith in him. You want to look like you and your political side has their shit together once it gets that close before an election. Once you see what you have to work with after the election and how much of a liability the weak links will be for the next two years...great time to take out the trash.

Hmm...don't know much about this dude. Career in the CIA that goes back over 2 decades, Washington insider and advisor to many presidents, then went off to be the president of Texas A&M Uni...friend of the Bush family... Knowing so little about him, sounds like a pretty safe bet from Bush
