For those who DIY PCs ....

    i have a question ...

i bought a Maxtor 300gb SATA hdd to add on to my system and when i plugged it in .. my system wouldnt start up .. i thought my power supply wasnt enough to run all the components so i upped it from 400w to 450w and it still wouldnt start up

i tried unplugging one of my older hdd and plug the new one in and it still wouldnt start up but when i changed it back to my original configuration its running fine ..

is it possible that the new hard drive that i have is faulty cos it seems like it to me ...

be sure you didn't plug it into the RAID SATA pin vs. Regular one. Check your Mobo Manual

I won't be back until next Tuesday, so if Get Carter is the correct answer, I would appreciate of someone else posts a new cap for me

nope its not set under RAID .. i tried plugging the new drive into the same SATA connection that my older drive is using and it shuts the system down as well

Do SATA drives have master/slave settings? Is that set correctly?

SATA drives are all set as master drive by default if im not wrong ... anyway it was a hdd fault ... one of the chip on the drive broke which was why it caused so much problems .. brought back to the store and had it replaced
