    McCain on Meet the Press

I'm paraphrasing here, but I heard McCain advocate the idea on Meet the Press that we need to either send more troops into Iraq or pull them all now and accept that Iraq (and the region) will be left in utter chaos and deal with the consequences -- with him strongly advocating the former position. The idea of sending more troops into that clusterfuck seems less than savory to me, but I guess I do agree with him that if we can't come up with a better plan, it doesn't make a lot of sense to continue to lose soldiers over there. Damned if we do, damned if we don't, IMO.

    Thoughts?

Also, with him obviously looking to run in 2008, any thoughts on how him taking this position will affect his electability? I think his position is, regrettably, probably accurate, but it's bound to be unpopular.

lmao, this goes to show how badly GW fucked things up within our own border. we openly and clearly (this time) voted for a group who didnt/doesnt have a clue on what to do as opposed to his ''vision'' (lack of better word here, toasty you fill it in )

            US government =

but the fact of the matter is... its really our fault. we can only blame the citizens in the end. we dont hold ourselves accountable for voting these ppl in. they never ''took office'', we put them there.

ted fucking kenneddy. im sorry, but he shouldnt be allowed to still maintain office. i wont talk policy, but a 2 term limit would be nice for all federal officials. it would prevent them from entrenching themselves in certain groups like energy and media, and it would give a far better chance for ppl who actually have something to say

perhaps I'm missing the segue, but what the hell does Ted Kennedy have to do with anything? Is this even in the right thread? I know you hate the guy, but c'mon, start your own damn thread...

i only mentioned him because he is around too long. it was the first thing i thought of when i mentioned term limits in the houses. wat term is he on? he has been in office on one way or antoher since 62.

here :: john mccain has been around for too long.

basically anyone who has been around for more than 3-4 terms should be out.

I think Mccain is probably right on this one... Either you squash the place and start acting decidedly less democratic and more dictatorial, or you get out.

I don't agree with getting out now. If we left Iraq today, Iran would take over and control one of the largest supplies of oil in the world. This would give them huge leverage against the rest of the world.

Sending more troops is a better idea... but it is not the long-term solution.
Sending more troops increases the chances of annihilating the opposition forces fighting over there. But if we just send more troops, and wipe out the militias.... that still isn't a solution. The Iraqi's must still develop their military and police forces to be self-sustaining. If their government cannot maintain order within their country, then it will fail. So the solution is for the Iraqi's to get their act together. Of course, I do not see this happening. The Iraqi people don't want freedom badly enough to fight for it.
