BERLIN, Germany (CNN) -- A masked gunman died Monday after storming a high school in a northwest German town and wounding several people, German police officials said.
It was not immediately clear how the man died, police spokesman Klaus Laackmann told CNN.
N-tv television reported the assailant was an 18-year-old former student of the school, The Associated Press said. His body has yet to be recovered.
Laackmann said the school, located in Emsdetten near the city of Muenster, had been evacuated. Police were searching the school, he added.
One teacher said she heard the melee as she walked into the teacher's room.
"All of a sudden I heard bangs," said Gerd Endemann, according to a translation from The Associated Press. "It wasn't gunfire, but probably a smoke bomb. Then students came running into the teacher's room saying 'Someone's shooting.'"
Students at the school were between the ages of 10 and 16, Laackmann said.
The good thing is nobody got killed but the asshole with the gun. Good riddance!
