Looking for some info before I pick up a new stick, and I'm not finding much of anything really useful on most commercial sites. Can anyone direct me to an active forum where I might be able to get some info, product reviews, etc.?
a new stick, bro hehe. depends what terran, dont know much at all but stay away from copalnds or family sports stores. support your local shop and ask them, i cant images the shit that people say on snowboard forums...like it could be worse then this one
you're better off buying a booard from last season, or two seasons ago, still new. it will have lost it's trendiness with the little brats and save you a bunch of money. I usually go with Saloman or Nitro. they make great "sticks". also lib tech and gnu hand make each board so i'd check them out as well.
Probably looking for a freeride or all-mountain-type board -- I will go off of jumps and whatnot from time to time, but I spend more time carving around than I do in the parks and pipes. Right now, I have a Liquid Mercury 156 that I bought as part of a "I'm just getting started" package years ago. Last time I was out, I realized as I got better that that board just absolutely blew. It's slow as molasses, won't hold a decent edge, and has all the stiffness of an 80 year old man after too much brandy. Also, I've added some pounds to the ol' frame since I got that thing, and I completely washed it out.
After a few days, I had had it. I ended up demoing a much stiffer and somewhat longer board, and the difference was like night and day. Problem is that that was like 4 years ago, so I couldn't tell you what the hell I was on and I'm kinda back to square one. I def. can't go back to my current board -- it was fine when I got it for what I was doing, but I'm ready for an upgrade. I unfortunately only make it out to the mountains every so often so I don't want to blow my wad, but at the same time, I don't want to look like a douchebag (as I suspect I did riding around on a board that I now know to be utter piece of shit) or get something that isn't going to perform respectably well, either.
I had definitely considered -- if not planned on -- getting a past-year model board as duff suggested, because I'm just not so trendy that I really care if I have this year's model or not. There's still a huge selection, though, and just don't want to make the same mistake I made last time. You'd be surprised how little press snowboarding gets in Missouri, makes it tough to know what's good and what ain't...
i bought an MIA deck ~7 years ago. haven't been much in the past 3 years, but after a tune up/waxing it still rode nice last winter. i remember i got it real cheap too
