strain rate ....umm... might be wrong, so ill say that first, its been like 7 years since physics....
dont think strain as in pasta strainer. think pressure exertion. i.e. a glass of this fliud would share more liquid properties, but the tank of it allows its denisty and pressure to promore more solid properties, hence when he ran, exerting more pressure on the surface, the fliud allowed him to remain on top, but when stopped, the pressure was lessened, and the fliud allowed him to sink.
