I've lived in Florida for 7/8 of my life, and have never gone to see a shuttle launch. Been to the space center, but never when a shuttle was going up.
Although I have seen them go up from here many times. The night launches are the best...it literally lights up the whole sky.
i never drove over from orlando to see any launches live. but when i lived in winter park (east orlando) i could see them goin up. very cool to witness even from that far away.
