I had about 20 hours of music and quite a few photos on my pc at work and half way through the day one day my computer started freezing. After rebooting it was fine but all the pics and music was gone This also happened on the same day to the guy I sit next too (music and pics) so it was clearly the IT geeks wiping it off. My question is, do u think that I will get the bullett for having non-related work stuff on my pc? My biggest worry is that some of the pics were off the 'yeah butt no butt' link I posted and while not being full on porn, were still fairly rude . Oh, and I am only a temp although been there for quite along time..

Re: Busted!
see if you can find the company policy on it (maybe on the internal website, if you have one). I know we arent allowed music or file sharing on our comps, but its generally not grounds for dismissal unless you've already been warned a few times...
and querty, the restrictions usually apply cause of security...music, especially downloaded stuff *could* potentially contain viruses. i know they dont give a crap if you listen to music off a cd or dvd, but having it on your comp can cause them grief. ohh...and if the company backs up your hard drive on a regular basis, then music & pics eat up hd space on the backup servers.Comment

Re: Busted!
Being a temp, you probably have to play by the rules more then others. Eventhough you have been there a while, it is infinitly easier for a corp to fire a temp then a full employee. While it is BS, you a probably better off keeping your choons on your ipod or thumb drive.Comment

Re: Busted!
Rule #1 never leave NSFW pics on your work pc, that's asking for it.
As for the music: they won't mind I guess. Got a mail from the nerd dept the other day to ask if I could please burn all my sets to CD-ROM cuz I was clogging up too much space on the server of my client. Whoopsie. The ps line read: "Btw, great taste in music, where did you get it?"Comment

Re: Busted!
I've worked in IT for years, and for a long time I was server/deskside support. our policy was basically "if it's not stored on the server, not worth my time."
also a good practice to not store any illegal sets... livesets only should do you well I'd thinkComment

Re: Busted!
i have to deal with this with my employees. the companies point of view is they want to protect their investment in the computer. i understand your view though, because i do the same thing. rather than be a hypocrit, i overlook small things like this as long as
a) the computer doesn't get screwed up or
b) work is done right
play is acceptable at work as long as work is done first
you should be good. no harm, no foulComment

Re: Busted!
when i was at corp america, that pretty much the attitude they had. & i would only keep live sets or radio broadcasts, no commercial.Comment
