    Martial Arts and You

So i have a couple of friends who are into martial arts, be it kung fu or whatever. they go there twice to three times a week and learn and pratice that stuff, and i know some of you guys do it too. but do you really think you could (or actually would) use it in real life?
If 4 drunken fuckers walk up to you and start talking shit, would you remember everything you learned in your dojo?
As for me, i think some of my buddies would be beaten up heavily even by one big bastard without a chance, even if they take their training very serious and are actually very good fighters (in the dojo, that is). I was in Karate class for 5 years, but i'm sure some random big guy could mop the floor with my ass. So what do you think?

yes, b/c when you learn the later stages and especially in aikido, you learn how to quickly and severly hurt ppl. im not talking a straight fist fight with 4 guys, no one stands a chance, but if the 4 walk up to you, and you crush a trachea, poke an eye, within a quick second, you now have to fight two, and so forth. think what the guys are thinking when they look down to thier buddies writhing in severe pain yelling get an ambulance, you learn to react before you get jumped on. trust me, no guy, if you're holding thier adams apple between two fingers, will try to get out.

i trained for 14 years now in aikido and jui jitsu, and when it comes to screwing around im a pussy, fully admit that, but if it is real deal, to the point where i know ill end up in the hospital, i will break your arm before you know it, and then probably do some more permanent damage. nothing will shy a loud mouth tough guy away more than if you take out the biggest guy there by grabbing his balls and breaking his nose with a nice elbow when he leans forward.

training reaches a point where you really become serious and it becomes about damaging people without fisticuffs.

totally agree. studied isshinryu and jui jitsu for several years, after you become faily skilled, it's not a matter of remembering as much as it is instinct. it's truly amazing at how it comes out of you when the time calls for it. i would never consider myself as a bad ass by any means, but it has definately got my ass out of some hairy situations in the past. if you are interested in studying martial arts, i would check into some form of jui jitsu, as most fights end up on the ground, but you need to know how to fight on your feet as well.

i was at shea stadium two years ago, and my friend got into it with some kids below us, and the tough guys run up the seats (not the aisle) to fight us. well.... thier mistake and my arrest. i grabbed the first one up right by his neck and threw him right back on top of his girlfriend 6 rows down. then i got hit in the left eye, turned around, grabbed the kid who hit me, and from what i can tell, probably broke his jaw. i look back and one kid is on top of my friend danny punching him so i grab his hair, finger in eye, punch the side of his neck and security proceeded to jump on me in numbers.

^^^ what they said, its not about remembering, becoming a fighter (if you train regularly) becomes a reflex action especially after getting repeatedly thrashed at your classes by your mates.....

It's been said before: it's the reflex and the insight that you develop. Plus imo also the knowledge what to hit how and where and how hard in order to immobilize someone without inflicting too much permanent damage...

Never took a beating anymore since I started with thai.

That's a good thing, the best fight is a fight which can be avoided.

I am a 2nd degree blackbelt in isshinryu and i can atest that you DO use it in real combat. in March of 05 i was walking out of a club and walked by 4 guys that were looking for a fight, just talking trash to me and didn't even know me. What they didn't know is my friends were in front of us, they ended up pulling me into a fight with them and myself and one friend severly injured 3 of them.

I felt bad afterward but i kept trying not to fight them, but they wouldn't let up. they thought the 4 of them were going to hammer me. I mean they probably would have put me in the hospital if they could.

I remember one guy on the ground kept saying WTF, why did i do it and that set me off more. When i'm pushed past a point i kinda lose it as i did with them.

anyway my point is, yes, with proper martial arts training you can hold your own

word, not that i advocate fighting, but the few ones i have had in the last 5 years had me rolling afterwards. i keep remembering that fight at the mets game and the kid's girlfriend screaming "get an ambulance" over and over... hey man, his mistake, he tried to hurt me, so i made sure i hurt him enough so that he wouldnt

if you spar, you will remember. I am a very passive person when it comes to confrontation. I personally do not like it. I am also one of those people with a pretty long fuse, but if indeed that fuse goes off ... " ka bloomy ". You actually win fights by not fighting. That is a true battle won.

One my good buddies was in a pro boxing league ... we went out one night and he left his cell phone and car deck etc in the car. I asked why don't you take that stuff it's going to get stolen ... he replied ... I like to fight.
