How to deal with your opposition - Iranian style

Whilst i'm sure that crime across the globe is increasing, one wonders what crimes 2,600 Iranians daily commit to be imprisoned?

Iran: 600,000 jailed since start of year
Islamic republic sentences 'at least 2,600 people every day,' 1 million a year
    Yaakov Lappin

Well over half a million Iranians have been imprisoned by their regime since the start of the year, Director-General of the Cultural and Disciplinary Committee of the Iranian Prisons Organization Mansour Moqareh-Abed told Iranian newspaper Jomhouri Islami.
The interview was cited by the website of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), an umbrella organization for Iranian opposition groups in exile.

According to the NCRI, Moraqeh-Abed added in the interview that "it is not possible to accommodate 'the cultural and disciplinary' needs of this many prisoners."

The NCRI noted that "everyday 2,600 people are sent to prison; thus, in a year the figure grows to 1 million," a figure described as an "unprecedented world record."

The NCRI added in its statement: "Obviously, the actual number of detainees in Iran is much higher than the official figure since it does not take into account various unofficial penitentiaries and prisons.

"In particular, the regime has stepped up suppression to an unprecedented level and street arrests have increased in order to combat the rising number of popular demonstrations and uprisings."

Calling for human rights organizations to take up the plight of Iranian prisoners, the NCRI drew special attention to political prisoners jailed for their opposition to the Iranian regime.

    'Help the NCRI'

In 2002, the offices of the NCRI were shut down in Washington DC, after the State Department said the organization was a front for the People's Mujahedin of Iran, a militant Iranian opposition group dedicated to toppling the Iranian government.

Since then, a number of politicians and analysts in the West have said that the NCRI should be made legal again, as it was a crucial representative of Iranian groups working to overthrow the government of Ayatollah Khameini and President Ahmadinejad.

On Saturday, a British member of the House of Lords, Lord Fraser, called on the British government to take the NCRI off the list of banned groups. Fraser was reported by the NCRI as saying that he had been threatened by what appeared to be Iranian government agents, due to his support for the NCRI.

NCRI President-Elect Maryam Rajavi said Saturday that she "welcomed the adoption of a resolution by the UN Security Council against the mullahs' regime," saying it was "the first necessary step towards preventing the ruling religious fascism in Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb."

“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.”

      From your post:

      5,600 Palestinian security inmates
      2,420 serving sentences
      2,650 awaiting trial
      530 'administrative detainees'
      1,500+ with 'blood on hands'

Are you comparing that to 2,600 people being imprisoned EVERY DAY?

            Walla, as they say here.

The creature from down-under wants to make a comparision between those who have either planned to kill or killed with those who oppose a theocratic regime.

Lets remember the topic subject before you divert it YET again onto something totally not related:

            2,600 Iranians imprisoned everyday.

I guess that the fact that you are unable to critise the Iranian regime and their vile actions in shutting up opposition says much about you and the type of dhimmi you actually are - must be hard licking that mad mullah butt all the time dig!

Agreed. There is no comparison. One instance is talking about 5800 prisoners total. Another is 2600 per day.

what subter and dave arent realizing is that most people right now dont understand the middle easterners attitudes, nor do they give a damn about "planning" as opposed to action, unless it hits them on thier door. like the thread about the aussie who was captured fighting with the afghans..... OK, maybe he didnt kill anyone YET, but he wasnt there for the cuisine, so just hope that the next sicko fucker hits thier family as opposed to yours.

What I understand is that the most dangerous people in the world right now are not terrorists themselves.... but rather terrorist apologists who live in western societies. It's the seemingly rational people who don't criticize terrorists, but rather divert attention back onto the USA or Israel.... claiming it is our own fault. THEY are the most dangerous people in the world, because they are helping stir up the problem.

This attitude is increasing, and it dangerous because it is causing new terrorists to arise from within our midst. People see on television the plans being foiled where western raised muslims have been radicalized through propaganda they find on the internet, or in local mosques. In the past, terrorists were learning their trade in camps in places like Afghanistan.... but now they are learning down the street. These are educated people, who turn on their societies. In many cases these people are not as devoutly religious as some terrorists, but a new breed which uses (what they consider to be) far more rational justifications for mass murder.

Hezbollah fires rockets blindly at Israel.... Israel sends warning that they will respond, and then bombs the weapons caches which are being hidden in homes. And people try to equate the two situations. I'm sorry, there is no comparison. Israel defends herself, and even provides warning to the Lebanese civilians to get out of harms way.

Iran imprisions 2600 of it's own people every day, but then people point at Israel and say "They are imprisoning 5800 palestinians." 5800 enemy combatants, who set up carbombs in crowded areas.

                  Sorry.... no comparison.

I am with you, though..... Sightless. I hope the next terrorist attack hits one of these apologists.
