So I need to get a new desktop, have been trying to find a new desktop for around $2000. Want to have a free upgrade to Windows Vista, want Intel Core 2 Dual at least and a graphics card with a Nividia GeForce 7900. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been checking some Alienware computers out, but they seem like a rip-off.

Re: Need new desktop...
it's not rocket science.
the toughest part could be picking the right parts (we can help you with that) and the assembly process.
but trust me. once you do that, you'll never want an overpriced pc anymorehttp://www.myspace.com/hernancattaneo

Re: Need new desktop...
for example.
a case with a 500w power supply, 500gb hard disk, a decent motherboard
is 2gb enough?? 2x1gb Corsair XMS $129.99 (you can get 2 more gigs if you want)
Intel Core2Duo 6600 for $317.00 (best price/perfomance relation imho)
a good sound card by Creative for $135.99
an eVGA nvidia 8800gts card for $429.99 and you get Directx10 compliance
so. it goes like this.
and you have enough for a 22" lcd samsung monitor like this one
edit: oops.. i forgot a dvd burner
this sony should work fine. add $45
a quick note. if you use this arctic silver compound for your processor, it improves heat transfer to the heatsink. this is recommended when you build your own rig, specially because it's cheap and worths every cent

Re: Need new desktop...
Thats cool and all, but wouldn't I need more wattage to run a system like that. Those are the little things that I would worry about. However, that would be a hell of a lot better having all that extra power for the price.Comment

Re: Need new desktop...
500w should be enough if you don't plan to overclock or add a 2nd graphic card. BUT you can opt for one of these power supply.
630w for $99.99 sounds like a bargain to me
wish i could get one of those at that price here
600w for $89.99
a ThermalTake 600w for $104.99 looks perfect to me. TT, Antec, OCZ and Enermax are my favorite brands for power supplies

Re: Need new desktop...
Unless you absolutely need to have a new desktop TODAY, you might want to wait a month until Vista is released and systems are pre-loaded with it. It always seems like there are issues when you change OSes that you don't have when you stay with the same OS.
People way disagree on this, maybe even in a vitriolic way, but any more, you can get as good a deal at Dell as anywhere else. You might also check TigerDirect.com -- they always seem to have great deals going.Comment
