shitty in what respect? His voting record shows that he's definitely a democrat, but I don't see the "strict party line" behavior you're referencing. He's not exactly blazing any trails, but what "good" republican legislation did he vote against?

im not having a go at the dem vs repub thing.

but he is far from the centrist enigmatic guy the speech writers and media are making him out to be. that is the point. he isnt any JFK or Reagan where they always openly tried to do the right thing for 90% of us, but more of a guy who obviously asks his party leadership what to do. the evidence is there.

That's not what I mean. I guess my point is that he came into office when the Republicans were reveling in the glory of their "mandate" from the 2004 elections, and democrats had very little power to do much of anything but sit back and watch. What do you expect him to do? Vote in favor of legislation he opposes to show that he can "reach across the aisle?"

What I'm saying is this -- you're painting him as if he is a guy who will ignore the common good to vote with the democrats no matter what. I say prove it. He's a democrat, and he's going to vote with the democrats most of the time. This should not be news to anyone. What I'm asking for is an example of some legislation that you would expect him to be on board with, but that he voted against -- where he put partisan politics over principle.

That's the sort of thing that pisses me off -- when partisan rancor gets in the way of actually doing the right thing. I'm not aware of any legislation of the past two years, though, that was so important that a "no" vote would reach that level.
