For those living outside your home country...

Ok, so I?ve noticed some people here don?t live in the same country they were born.

In about 3 weeks, I?ll be making a huge change in my life : I?ll be moving from Lisbon, Portugal, to Madrid, Spain.
It?s not a huge change...both cities are about 450 miles/600 Km?s away from each other.

But I?m going to leave my family behind, and the town where I lived for 29 years. I?m also going to leave an office job at GE Portugal, to be in a partnership with very good Spanish friend of mine in a transportation company, whch will imply driving a van around Europe most of the time. I?ll be taking my wife and kid. Pretty cool, I guess, but still a bit scary and daunting.

So, if someone here would like to share their experiences in moving from one country to another, it would be nice. What differences did you feel? what was great and what was not so great about it?

Oh, BTW, there?s an [MS] / Dance music connection here : my friend does some gigs as a prog/tribal house DJ around Spain, and has released a record through a small Spanish label, Exquizi-tech, about 6 months ago, which got some airplay from people like Chus & Ceballos, and which got to Nr.1 in the Only Dj?s Progressive House chart, called "Something Special". He?s called DJ Dusk. http://www.only-djs.com/vinyl/search...e.php?id=30636

well i was just 13 when i moved here (northwest united states) from just south of london... its been a good experience, lots of differences, but by now ive been here almost 9 years, its almost HOME. i do miss the rest of my family very much, but i get to see them every few years. it should be a good experience, at least its not too far away

yeah i've done the move... pretty much as far as you possibly go actually, from new zealand to london. didn't know a single person in london when i arrived... i had a job and a place to stay for a couple of weeks and that was it.

wasn't easy. as a general rule the english tend to be more reserved in making friends than i was used to. 6 months down the line and i hardly felt i knew any or the people i worked with... we'd go out drinking and stuff, but i wouldn't say i had mates that i'd ring up when i really needed a mate. then i guess i met the right bunch of people (clubbing strangly enough ) and everything started to fall into place...

Re:: For those living outside your home country...

I was re-reading my post and now I feel like I was making a shameless plug to my friend?s track...
Not my intention...what I meant was that I?m excited because I started producing about 6 months ago, and I?ll now have a chance to also invest a little more time in that, because we?ll be collaborating.

In fact, the vocals on his next track will be by little old me...we recorded them 3 weeks ago at his home studio!

And for sure, clubbing will be on the menu...lke Nigel said, should be a great way to get integrated a bit more.
